Golden State Warriors star and NBA Finals MVP Stephen Curry is asserting that Americans should treat former President Trump and his potential run at the presidency in 2024 as a serious “threat.”
“Take Trump seriously? Of course,” he told leftist Rolling Stone magazine in an interview that was published Monday for its October issue.
“Most of his rhetoric — before he was president, during his last four years, and even now, if he tries to run again — has a tone of divisiveness that doesn’t have a place in our country,” Curry proclaimed.
“As serious and as loud as the threat is of him or whoever else is running for office,” he stated, “there’s a similar urgency and a loudness that’s necessary on the other side.”

Curry has never been a Trump fan. Following Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank calling then-President Trump an “asset” to the country in a 2017 sit-down, he told the San Jose Mercury News in an interview, “I agree with that description, if you remove the ‘et’ from asset.”
Curry opposed his team visiting the White House in 2017 to celebrate their NBA championship title. After Curry’s insulting remarks, Trump tweeted that the White House invitation to Curry had been “withdrawn.”
Curry is tight with the Obamas. He is a current board member of “When We All Vote,” Michelle Obama’s voter registration and engagement organization.
He was candid about his leftist activism with Rolling Stone, saying, “You’re growing and evolving on the same page as these national, politicized conversations, but it doesn’t have to be sides. What I try to do is be real, but also activate conversation that is sometimes uncomfortable.”

“The current events of the Trump era, I don’t wake up and say, ‘I wanna go at that conversation,’” Curry declared during the interview. “Some of this stuff falls on your doorstep and people want a perspective or comment, and sometimes you cough that up unsolicited.”
He also regrets not speaking up more on boycotting the All-Star game in North Carolina, protesting a law requiring that transgender people use the bathroom corresponding to their biological sex. Curry said that he could’ve “been a lot stronger” on the issue.
“We get attacked as athletes sometimes when you don’t want to say something — ‘I need to get more educated,’ there’s all these lines that people use,” he charged. “It kind of seems like you’re soft or like you’re equivocating or avoiding whatever the situation is.”

Curry told the magazine that former President Obama is a frequent golfing partner and a fan.
He also revealed that Obama once excoriated him for repeating on a 2018 podcast a conspiracy theory that questioned whether astronauts really landed on the moon.
“I got an email. It was a pretty stern, direct one from President Obama,” Curry recalled and then recounted how Obama told him that humans did go to the moon. He said that the former president told him, “You’ve got to do something about this.”
The NBA star did as he was told and hosted an Instagram Live discussion with an astronaut for his more than 45 million followers. He also auctioned off a pair of custom-made space-themed sneakers and gave the proceeds to STEM education programs.
After winning his fourth NBA championship in June, Curry demanded ostensibly of conservatives, “What are they gonna say now?”
According to Rolling Stone, Obama suggested adjusting the challenge slightly, telling Curry to ask them, “What the f*** are they gonna say now?”
President Obama (along with the World) watched Steph win the Title say “What are they gonna say now?!”
He picked up the phone and called Steph… and tells him to add a bit of sauce to the new mantra:
