Kamala Harris blasted by fellow Dem for using Biden as a 2024 ‘meal ticket’ to the White House

At least one prominent Democrat in California is not enamored of Vice President Kamala Harris’s cynical support of Joe Biden’s reelection. Gloria Romero, former Democratic leader of the California State Senate, was fiercely critical this morning on “Fox & Friends First.”

“Let’s face it. Joe Biden is Kamala Harris’s meal ticket to potentially the presidency,” Romero accused.

Asked about Harris’s clear statement of intent to run with Biden, Romero said it wasn’t actually clear at all.

“It really is parsing words,” she said. “She needs to go ahead and to keep putting out there for the public and especially potential other opponents that Joe Biden is running, because the longer people can believe that myth, the greater the opportunity is that no other contender… might step into the fray.”

Harris’s commitment to run again with Lunch Bucket Joe came during an interview on Sunday with Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

During the interview, the vice president also addressed the raid on Mar-a-Lago, predicting that the American people will “demand justice” against former President Donald Trump.

Asked whether a vice president and former state attorney general should be making inflammatory statements like this, Romero responded unambiguously.

“Absolutely not,” she said. “Look, I’m a former member of the board of the ACLU, which does believe in due process, the respect for search and seizure rights. I think many of us, probably most of us are appalled, whatever we think of Donald Trump, [at] what happened to the former president of the United States.”

Whether she is in touch with the ACLU’s continuing commitment to due process in today’s political climate is not clear, but she went on to make an observation as to why Harris would posture in this way.

“It’s a way to try to reshape and try to encourage the electorate to not look at inflation,” continued Romero, “to not look at supply chain, to not look at the crisis of a very unsecured border, and to try to focus on these so-called divisive issues such as an activist court.”

Democrats have been in lockstep in their opposition to the Supreme Court as currently structured. It is rare to hear a Democrat being measured in their tone with regard to SCOTUS. Nevertheless, she continued in that vein, saying that she finds it to be a “disappointment” when Democrats attack the Court.

“It is a disappointment. All of us should respect this third branch of government… The tide will turn eventually, and I think we have to be prepared to not undermine the institutions of our government,” she said.

As to whether she thinks that Democrat voters want Biden to run in 2024, Romero referred to a recent LA Times poll, which found that 54% of Democrats “oppose another term for Joe Biden.”

“It’s even higher amongst Latinos, which is a significant part of the Democratic Party that is quickly walking away. The gap even amongst black voters… is increasing as well.”

At one point during her interview, Romero summed up her thoughts on Harris’s fealty to Biden, “Nobody believes it. It’s gaslighting.”
