Kevin McCarthy travels to confront POTUS on attacking ‘the soul of America’

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) took the GOP fight to Joe Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Penn., and accused him of launching “an attack on the soul of America” ahead of one of the most divisive speeches ever given by a U.S. President.

In a “prebuttal” to the scripted words Biden would deliver later on Thursday, McCarthy addressed the President’s many failed policies and claimed that, unlike the Biden administration, he shares the fears Americans have as inflation, crime, and chaos at the border consume the nation.

“They just don’t get it,” he told the crowd gathered at Don’s Machine Shop in West Pittston. “You have never been more worried, more alarmed, by the direction of our country. Yet they tell you everything is fine. You worry that your children will have less opportunity than you did, yet they tell you things are looking up.”

“You fear that America is becoming poorer, less safe, less respected, and less free by the day,” he continued. “Yet they tell you, the border is safe and America is secure. The White House says inflation is transitory, deficits don’t matter, and the spike in crime is just a bump in the road. Yet, you know that doesn’t add up.”

And that, said McCarthy, is where Republicans differ from the Democrats.

“I don’t dismiss your fears, I share them,” he said. “And I, along with every Republican running for Congress this year, share your unwavering conviction that we must change direction in Washington before it is too late.”

While the President would, just a few hours later, label, demean, and dismiss the half of the country who put America first, McCarthy appealed to their sense of patriotism and promised, with a “historic Republican majority,” that the nation would once again “flourish.”

“The American experiment in the good people who believe in it have not said their last word,” he stated. “The electric cord of liberty still sparks in our hearts. The spirit of the pilgrims, the patriots, the pioneers, still inspire our souls.”

” Our best days are ahead of us not behind this. Our nation can flourish again,” he continued.  “And under a new historic Republican majority, it will.”

Helping to secure that majority was the other reason for the Minority Leader’s trip to Scranton. McCarthy was also there to throw his support behind Pennsylvania’s Congressional candidate, Jim Bognet, in his bid to represent the state’s 8th congressional district, the Daily Mail reported. According to McCarthy, November’s midterm elections are nothing short of “a national referendum” on the policies that shape the nation, and the Democrats’ policies are destroying the country.

“The past two years have been a time of trial for Americans everywhere,” he stated. “Never in modern times has an administration promised more and delivered less. And they have no one to blame but themselves.”

“In the past two years, Joe Biden has launched an assault on the soul of America, on its people, on its laws, on its most sacred values,” McCarthy continued. “He has launched an assault on our democracy. His policies have severely wounded America’s soul, diminished America’s spirit, and betrayed America’s trust.”

Biden, said McCarthy, owes Americans an apology for the inflammatory insults he has hurled at his detractors.

“When the President speaks tonight at Independence Hall, the first lines out of his mouth should be to apologize for slandering tens of millions of Americans as fascists,” McCarthy stated.

Of course, that apology never came. Instead, Biden doubled down, claiming the “MAGA forces” will drag the country “backwards.”

“President Biden wants to talk about the soul of the nation,” McCarthy said. “What Joe Biden doesn’t understand is that the soul of America is in the tens of millions of hardworking people, of loving families, of law-abiding citizens whom he vilified for simply wanting a stronger, safer and more prosperous country.”

“The soul of America,” he said, “is not the ruling class in Washington.”
