Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) sandblasted leftists who claim he nodded his head, indicating he wanted to defund the FBI after a video surfaced where he told a reporter that the agency needed “a complete housecleaning” and “real oversight” from Congress.
Lauren Windsor, a political activist and founder of the web-based show “The Undercurrent,” interviewed the senator and asked him about defunding the FBI during a campaign event for Herschel Walker in Atlanta hosted by Truth and Courage PAC on Saturday. She secretly recorded the conversation.
“I wanna say, thank you so much for all you’re doing to fight for Herschel Walker to take back the Senate. And I just think it’s so important that you guys are actually going to defund all those IRS agents,” Windsor stated.
“Absolutely,” Cruz replied. He has previously called for the IRS to be abolished.

“But I think it’s imperative that you really have to defund the FBI after all the witch hunts that are going on,” Windsor insisted, evidently in an attempt to trip up Cruz and get him to admit he wants to defund the agency.
“It is horrific the abuse of power at the FBI and it’s wrong. And there needs to be a complete house cleaning that happens at the FBI,” Cruz asserted.
“Are y’all gonna be able to do that when you retake the Senate?” she asked.
“I think we need to fight to do that. We need to fight to have real oversight,” Cruz responded.
Cruz never agreed with the premise of defunding the FBI. That didn’t stop the leftist media outlet MeidasTouch from falsely claiming that is what the senator did.
Windsor then took to Twitter claiming that Cruz had agreed to defund the FBI by nodding his head, which is an acknowledgment of what she was saying, not agreement.

He also nailed MeidasTouch for lying about the incident, “Obviously, @MeidasTouch didn’t watch the video before tweeting. Instead, they’re just brazenly lying.”

Senior reporter at CNN Daniel Dale called the staged attack “weak sauce.”
“Nowhere in this video does Cruz actually agree with the idea of defunding the FBI – or say anything about defunding at all. She proposes defunding; he pivots to ‘housecleaning.’ (And if you’re gonna try to interpret a head-nod followed by a head-shake, that’s some weak sauce.)” he wrote.
Dale then retweeted “Cruz’s reply to the inaccurate description from Windsor and MeidasTouch.”
The CNN reporter followed that up by tweeting, “False again. Cruz calls for a ‘complete housecleaning’ at the FBI, then is asked if he thinks they’ll be able to do ‘that’ if they retake the Senate, then responds that they need to fight to do that. Quite clearly wasn’t talking about defunding.”

Cruz doubled down on his actual statements via social media and excoriated leftists in the process, “Leftie Twitter is gonna lie—it’s what they do—but every word I said is true: The FBI’s raid was a horrific ‘abuse of power.’ There needs to be ‘a complete housecleaning’ at FBI. We need ‘real oversight’ from Congress. All absolutely true!”

His call for a “housecleaning” at the FBI is consistent with other statements Cruz has made concerning the FBI execution of a search warrant at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home on Aug. 8.
Cruz called the FBI raid on Trump’s residence “unprecedented” and asserted that the Biden administration had “weaponized” the Justice Department against its political opponents.
“Congress must demand answers. We need hearings; we need subpoenas. Dems in charge will refuse, but the American people deserve to know why Biden is using the FBI as his political enforcers. Tin-pot dictators do that, but that’s not how America works,” Cruz tweeted.
