The primary contest between two top New York Democrats who were forced into a matchup against each other due to redistricting has become increasingly nasty as the duo scratch and claw to hold onto their place onboard the congressional gravy train.
Days before voters are set to go to the polls, Rep. Carolyn Maloney drew on a New York Post editorial to rip her opponent, Rep. Jerrold Nadler who currently chairs the House Judiciary Committee as being mentally unfit to remain in Congress.
“They call him senile,” the 76-year-old Maloney told reporters on Saturday. “They cite his performance at the debate where he couldn’t even remember who he impeached. He said he impeached Bush.”
“I think that you should read the editorial in the NY Post today. They call him senile. They cite his performance at the debate where he couldn’t even remember who he impeached. In the editorial that Maloney was referring to, the paper noted: “In NY-12, combining Manhattan’s Upper East and West sides, Rep. Jerry Nadler exposed himself as this close to senile in that epic NY1 debate, though his bungling of Trump impeachment hearings (Speaker Nancy Pelosi eventually steered later proceedings away from his Judiciary Committee as a result) provided earlier signs. And don’t forget his Acela phone call where he got recorded discussing his secret-oops impeachment plans! Fact is, this is his first real race in decades: He may have been losing it for years.”
The Friday New York Post editorial linked to the 75-year-old Nadler’s controversial remarks when he told voters that they would lose their only Jewish member of Congress if he wasn’t re-elected.
“When I was elected to Congress in 1992, there were eight Jewish members from New York. There is now only one,” Nadler said during the debate at an Upper East Side synagogue earlier this month. “If I’m not re-elected the Jewish community will be the largest — the only large community — without representation.”
Congresswoman Maloney hasn’t been without her own problems, drawing pushback from her party when she told The New York Times in an interview that “off the record,” President Joe Biden was “not running again,” before she was reminded that the interview was on the record.
Maloney’s remarks, which were made as the White House and their media allies are engaged in an aggressive propaganda campaign to reboot the narrative about the deeply unpopular leader from one of reality to pure fiction, forced her to go on CNN to issue an apology for going rogue.
“I want you to run. I happen to think you won’t be running, but when you run or if you run, I will be there 100%. You have deserved it. You are a great president and thank you for everything,” she said.

The head-to-head political slugfest between the two New York lawmakers comes after congressional district maps were redrawn as a part of the redistricting process that takes place once a decade, the new boundaries replace the original maps that were gerrymandered by Democrats to give them an advantage.
The New York Post came down slightly in favor of Maloney with a tepid endorsement, “We routinely disagree with Rep. Carolyn Maloney, but she at least delivers, including for first-responders afflicted with post-9/11 illnesses. And the fact that she can work with the other party (she’s known for chatting with, gasp, GOP women in the House gym) means she can keep delivering in the likelihood that Republicans take the House.”
On Tuesday, New Yorkers will have their say on which of the two incumbents will be voted off of the island.
