Fmr. DHS chief Chad Wolf faces off with Acosta: ‘It sounds like you’ve watched one too many conspiracy films about the 2020 election’

CNN’s Jim Acosta may well be the poster child for the Orwellian narrative that corporate media has strived to maintain.

In a recent clash with former acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, where opinions were conflated with facts, the host’s contradictory assertions and baseless accusations leveled against his guest reeked of the “conspiracy theory” and “denialism” he so desperately tried to ascribe.

Wolf joined Acosta for a one-on-one Sunday on “CNN Newsroom” where the host kicked off the dialogue with his preferred baseline probe of Republicans regarding their position on the prevalence of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. The one-time head of DHS appeared to seek the middle ground on the subject to avoid speculative possibilities and focus on what should be a concern to all Americans.

“I think there’s a number of election irregularities, illegalities and fraud. That’s been widely reported on both the right and the left,” Wolf asserted. But that was shaky ground when it came to passing Acosta’s piety test and the host pressed as though his guest were on trial.

“But enough to alter the outcome of the 2020 election? Are you an election denier?” he asked.

“I would say any type of fraud, any type of election fraud–no, no, this is important–I don’t want to just bypass was it a little or was it a lot, right?” Wolf expressed as he grew more adamant in defending the known facts regarding election integrity. “Any election fraud should be addressed and I don’t think we can say, ‘hey, there’s a little fraud so that’s ok.'”

However, Acosta’s broken record played on, “Who won the 2020 election?”

“Obviously Joe Biden is president,” the former secretary stated and added, “I just answered your question,” as Acosta interjected, “No, no, no, no,” and “No, but he is the president, obviously.”

“He is the president,” Wolf affirmed as the host began to break down the manner in which the question was answered. “I’ve seen folks from Trump World parse this out, and say, ‘OK, Joe Biden is president.’ We know that, OK, that is a matter of fact. Do you believe that he won that election fair and square?”

The CNN host seemed to struggle with the concept that two facts could simultaneously be true, but Wolf worked to simplify it as best he could, “One, Joe Biden is president. Two, a number of irregularities, illegalities and fraud occurred during 2020.”

“But not sufficient to throw the election to Joe Biden,” Acosta declared as he went on to accuse Wolf of the behaviors he himself was engaged in, “You sound like a conspiracy theorist. You sound like an election denialist.”

As Wolf raised specifics on the illegality of drop boxes in the state of Wisconsin, Acosta went on to contradict himself. Despite claiming Trump had lost in court, he stated, “The Supreme Court wanted nothing to do with anything, any of these challenges,” acknowledging that the cases had never actually been litigated before doubling down, “Trump lost over and over and over again.”

His guest remained stalwart in his efforts to bring up concerns of ballot harvesting, voter ID laws, and cleaning voter rolls, but Acosta went on to demonstrate why his name is among those rumored to be on the chopping block from the network as CNN’s new president Chris Licht seeks to take a step away from such partisan punditry.

“You can’t continue to sow these seeds of doubt about American democracy,” Acosta persisted after he himself admitted, “of course, there are some episodes of fraud.”

“It’s simply failing the American people to continue to lead them down this path of lies,” he further asserted, lacking self-awareness.

“So it’s not lies, Jim. I’m happy to go through everything that I just said and to go into detail. I think when you deny the facts, when you deny the facts there has been some amount of fraud–now, I can’t tell you how much–there has been some fraud,” Wolf stated, measured. “There’s been illegalities. We see it state after state after state. We haven’t even talked about Zuckerbucks, we haven’t even talked about the number of things that occurred–”

“Chad, it sounds like you’ve watched one too many conspiracy films about the 2020 election,” accused Acosta.

“No, I’m actually reading the news and reading the facts,” the guest fired back before the interview was ended by Acosta, “That’s all the time that we have.”
