Media focused on kiss that wasn’t as Trump calls swimmer Riley Gaines to stage, vows to ‘keep men out of women’s sports’

This weekend, former President Donald Trump called for the elimination of the Department of Education and the banning of transgender athletes from women’s sports.

Speaking at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference Texas (CPAC Texas), he offered the bold take after introducing attendees to Riley Gaines, a college swimmer who used to dominate competitions up until “transgender woman” Lia Thomas entered the scene.

Interestingly, the media focused less on the president’s fierce words and more on his interactions with Gaines, whom they say snubbed Trump when he allegedly tried to give her a kiss.

But defenders of the president say the former president never even made an attempt to kiss Gaines.

Watch and decide for yourself:

After the alleged attempted kiss, Gaines then delivered a few tough remarks of her own.

“Basically, all I want to say is that it takes a brain and common sense and fifth grade biology level understanding to realize that this is blatantly unfair. It’s completely obvious. I’m just gonna say, keep female sports female!” she said.

The president agreed but decided to frame the issue in the context of the whole Department of Education and its “sick,” corrupted state.

“As we take power out of Washington, we also need to take power back from the left-wing lunatics who are indoctrinating our youth. We have to finally and completely smash the radical left’s corrupt education establishment. The current system is sick. It’s sick,” he said.

“We have the lowest scores almost in the world, and we spend more per pupil than any other nation. School prayer is banned. but drag shows are allowed to permeate the whole place — it’s OK. You can’t teach the Bible, but you can teach children that America is evil and that men are able to get pregnant.”

The former president then called for conservatives to “liberate America’s children” from this left-wing radicalism.

“Whatever it takes, conservatives must liberate America’s children from the captivity of these Marxist teachers’ unions. That’s what they are. Where do they come from?” he said.

Continuing his remarks, Trump then stressed the need to defend parents’ rights.

“We need to defend parents’ rights. Think of this. I gave a talk a few days ago, and I was talking about defending parents’ rights. And I just said, you know, can you imagine we are even talking about we are going to defend parents’ rights,” he said.

“Did you ever think, ten or five years ago today, that we would be fighting for parents’ rights? What’s more basic than parents’ rights, especially parents’ rights over their children? We’re trying to defend parents’ rights. It’s so crazy.”

It’s at this point that he called for abolishing the DOE.

“Across the country, we need to implement strict prohibitions on teaching inappropriate racial, sexual, and political material to America’s schoolchildren in any form whatsoever. And if federal bureaucrats are going to push this radicalism, we should abolish the Department of Education,” he said.

Seconds later, he also called for banning transgender athletes from female sports.

“We will keep men out of women’s sports,” he said.

Listen:

This perspective puts him in line with Betsy DeVos, who served as the Secretary of Education during his full four years in office.

In an interview earlier this summer, she noted that many of the meaningful changes she’d tried to implement in the DOE were thwarted by deep-state “career staff” who’d refused to budge.

Thus, she concluded, it seems the best course of option would indeed be to just abolish the whole department altogether.

“I’ve said often, I frankly don’t think the Department of Education should exist. That would get rid of a lot of the [problems]. … The creative reforms that we advanced, we really had to essentially work around most of the career staff because there were very few who would actually get the work done that needed to be done. Or [they] would present options that weren’t even close to what we were attempting to do,” she said.

“There are a lot of really nice and well-meaning people there. I don’t mean to disparage them in any way. But they are definitely oriented around being in their roles for probably most of their careers, if not all of them, and most of them don’t have really insight into what the rest of the world is really functioning like. So you’re never going to have the creativity in a large bureaucracy that you’re going to have to really upend and change what isn’t working.”

During his CPAC speech, Trump also railed against crime..

“Savage criminals are being released on cashless bail to continue their violent rampages against the United States of America. Entire communities are being torn to shreds with stabbings, shootings, strangling, rapes, and murders,”  he said.

“The streets of our Democratic-run cities are drenched with the blood of innocent victims. Gun battles rage between bloody-thirsty street gangs, bullets tear into crowds at random killing, wonderful, beautiful little children that never had a chance.”
