An Alabama abortion doctor attempted to put GOP state officials in their place by lecturing them about being unqualified to pass a ban because they aren’t medical professionals.

Dr. Leah Torres talked to MSNBC host Ali Velshi in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Saturday, contending that the abortion ban in Alabama comes from unqualified and unlicensed Republican state officials following the overturning of Roe vs. Wade by the Supreme Court.
Velshi spoke to a number of people in Alabama who oppose abortion restrictions, making MSNBC’s stance on the issue abundantly clear. Those who are against the abortion ban now find themselves in what they consider to be an untenable position.
State Rep. Chris England (D) and Robin Marty, who is the operations director for the West Alabama Women’s Center, are among those who are fit to be tied over pro-choice alternatives in the state.
The most jaw-dropping statement came from Torres though. She disingenuously compared those without medical licenses creating laws dealing with abortion to boarding a plane flown by an unlicensed pilot.

“If any of the Alabama legislators, if the attorney general wanted to come and see what I do, see what I face, see the people that they govern, that they are passing laws about, and the real-life situations, they might have a different song to sing,” Torres told Velshi during the interview.
She also contended that conservative lawmakers are too stupid to understand the laws they are passing. Torres evidently feels that they should step aside and let those who are educated decide what should and should not be law, especially when it comes to killing the unborn.
“Would you board a plane whose pilot didn’t have a license? Would you get on that plane?” she condescendingly asked.
“No,” Velshi adamantly replied.
“That would be insane, wouldn’t it? What we have are unlicensed people, without medical training, without medical licenses, telling those with training and with licenses, how to fly the plane,” Torres stated concerning abortion.

Leftists in Alabama are opposing the abortion ban and are pushing amendments to clarify language on restrictions in an effort to find loopholes to circumvent the law.
Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels (D) sent a letter to Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, asserting doctors have expressed “grave uncertainty regarding this law and have indicated that they may not treat certain types of patients due to possible criminal liability or that they may delay certain types of maternal care to ensure compliance with the law.”
“This matter is of great urgency as mothers may be unnecessarily denied care as doctors seek legal guidance,” Daniels wrote.
The Legislature in Alabama passed the Human Life Protection Act in 2019, making it a felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison for a doctor to perform an abortion at any stage of pregnancy except to protect the mother from serious health risks. The law was blocked by a federal court. But when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade in June, the Alabama law came into effect, making abortion illegal in the state.
