Arizona police were quick to respond when flood waters from a monsoon swept Sue Teders’ vehicle away, pushing her into a guardrail as she attempted to complete a DoorDash meal delivery, and it was all caught on film.
The flash flooding caused by the monsoon caused Teders to get stuck in the mud before the water pushed her vehicle out through some trees and into the guardrail.
The rescue by officers was dramatic, as they warned the woman that they were going to break the windows to get her out. This would push the water into her vehicle, and she needed to reach out to them before her vehicle fully sunk.
The woman attempted to get the officers to rescue her dog, who had been out on delivery with her, but they insisted on saving her first. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to rescue the 11-week-old puppy, Claire, before the vehicle was dragged away by the raging waters.
“It was my turn to be her support, to get her out. And I couldn’t,” Teders said in a statement to AZ Family. “So the guilt of that, first of all for taking her with me, which I very seldomly did, taking her with me and having that happen, I was telling my granddaughter, how do you get over that?”
However, she is incredibly thankful to the responding officers for helping her out of the life-threatening situation.
“They were there as quickly as they could go and I know they had other rescues to deal with,” she acknowledged. “Without them where would I have been? So thank you.”
Teder’s grandson, Connor Smith, insists that they are still going to look for the young puppy.
“I went to where my grandmother was, and she was in the ambulance. She started crying and said that the dog is gone,” he remarked. “But you don’t know that the dog could still be out there. I know she is little, but we got to look.”
After making a post about the search on social media, one good samaritan decided to join in and try to locate Claire.
“I was sitting on my bum on social media like a lot of us do in our spare time, and I thought it’s awful and I live close by. If it were my fur babies, I would hope some stranger sitting on their bum would get up and look. It was nice enough out that I figured I wouldn’t die doing it,” said Allison Vanario.
Unfortunately, there has been no sign of the dog yet, but at least one life was saved due to the officers’ actions.
