Taxpayer-funded National Public Radio (NPR) is getting roasted on social media after management announced that it is creating a permanent disinformation reporting team that had been operating on a temporary basis.
NPR, a network consumed with identity politics, famously or infamously suppressed the Hunter Biden ‘laptop from hell’ story, because it was a waste of time and a “pure distraction.”
Although this statement does not seem to appear on the main NPR website, Nevada Public Radio posted a staff note purportedly from Terence Samuel, VP and Executive Editor, and Nancy Barnes, SVP of News and Editorial Director, in which the duo claimed that disinformation “has emerged as one of the great civic challenges of our time.”
The execs also lamented that “From the lies about the 2020 election to the growing influence of anti-vaccine activists, to the enduring influence of climate-change denialism, lies and conspiracy theories have seeped into nearly all aspects of modern-day life, both in the US and around the globe.”
The mission of the team, which was initially set up after January 6, 2021, “is to seek out original, high-impact stories” which common sense suggests fits the narrative.
NPR, which over the years has been mocked as National Propaganda Radio, is the same outlet that abandoned its traditional July 4th reading of the Declaration of Independence in favor of a conversation about equality.
In other recent developments, NPR has been accused of going full groomer and was also lambasted for politicizing the tragic assassination of Shinzo Abe, Japan’s former prime minister, prompting calls for its defunding. It has also informed its listeners, using a recurring liberal talking point, that the Supreme Court has undermined its credibility after decisions about gun control and abortion.

In the run-up to the midterm elections in November, perhaps NPR is trying to fill the vacuum created when the U.S. Department of Homeland Security abandoned, or seems to have abandoned, plans for a Ministry of Truth.
Misinformation or disinformation often turns out to be narrative-challenging content with which the gatekeeping left disagrees.
As many on Twitter have implied, moreover, the latest NPR initiative appears to be another example of progressive cognitive dissonance or projection, i.e., engaging in the very behavior that the left supposedly seeks to denounce or root out.
It’s roughly similar to how authoritarians, and their corporate media allies, are now claiming they are trying to save democracy.
Here is some of the reaction that is rolling in from conservative luminaries about a news network with a track record of presenting one-sided information:
What are you talking about? You’ve been little other than a disinformation team for many years. https://t.co/VfpgJ57GKO

Perhaps the NPR Disinformation Team will begin its work by examining NPR. https://t.co/kxmr3hme12

NPR just announced the creation of a DISINFORMATION TEAM.
NPR deliberately covered up the Hunter Biden laptop story by labeling it a DISTRACTION.
NPR’s first target needs to be itself.

Your entire organization is a disinformation team. https://t.co/xnaEtRR45I

NPR, the disinformation is clearly coming from inside your “newsroom”. pic.twitter.com/8GvtAz91sk

NPR better be very careful with this disinformation team. If it has a Hunter laptop type foul up it will be the most powerful ammunition the GOP has ever had to defund it. https://t.co/kFBr5TtkXo

NPR is already just kind of one big disinformation team already tho https://t.co/kKTISV2OjC

Internal review first?

Defund NPR. https://t.co/ttYogMyYN5
