Dramatic surveillance video released by the Aransas Pass Police Department, which is located near Corpus Christi, Texas, depicts a man allegedly trying to use a service taser on an officer.
The suspect appears to get up from a desk and allegedly attack a female officer at the station or in jail and also allegedly attempting to use the electronic incapacitating device on her or one of her law enforcement colleagues.
The precarious encounter reportedly occurred about four years ago, although the police department released the footage on Thursday.
The first three minutes or so of the video contains body cam footage of cops trying to detain a noncompliant motorist in a shopping area who was entering his vehicle and who said, “I don’t want any problems.”
Uncooperative, he repeatedly asked, “What is going on?”
It also appears that one of the officers smashed through a rear window during the incident. It sounded like the suspect received a warning that he could be tased unless he was more cooperative.
A group of cops eventually took the man, who denied taking any drugs, to the ground and cuffed him. The suspect, who allegedly had a warrant, was arrested on several charges.
The lead officer can be heard telling him, “We don’t know what’s going on with you either, but you obviously need some help.”
The taser grab allegedly occurred later in the day before officers in the station subdued the man who appeared to then be uncuffed. “Later that afternoon, we had to move some inmates around…the following video illustrates the danger,” an annotation in the video explained.

According to a caption in the video, the suspect allegedly fired the taser at a backup officer and purportedly attempted to reload it.
The suspect “was later convicted on two felony charges related to this incident and is currently serving time in a Texas prison. [His] projected release date is August 28, 2023,” the Law & Crime network reported.
In another taser-related incident that occurred earlier this month, a Harris County deputy sheriff, who was grappling with a suspected shoplifter after a foot chase, shot and killed the suspect who allegedly “was able to gain control of the taser during the fight,” Fox 26 Houston reported. The Harris County sergeant had attempted to use the taser on the suspect to detain him.
Elsewhere in Harris County, in a wholly unrelated matter, a former deputy constable was relieved of duty and faced multiple felony charges after allegedly doling out corporal punishment to her three young children with a taser, BPR reported in late May.

All suspects are presumed innocent until or unless they are convicted in a court of law of any alleged crimes.
