He does it again: Biden talks of honoring ‘selfishness’ of American troops in latest speech blunder

President Joe Biden gaffed again on the global stage for the billionth time in a row within the span of just a couple days.

“For the first time since 9/11, an American president is visiting this region without American troops being engaged in combat and a combat mission in the region. We’ll always honor the bravery, the selfishness — selflessness — and the sacrifices of the Americans who served, including my son, Major Beau Biden,” he said.

He made the gaffe in Saudi Arabia during a meeting Saturday of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Sitting to the right of him, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who had otherwise been sitting perfectly still, visibly winced as Biden said “selfishness.”

To be fair, the president obviously quickly corrected himself, though that did little to stop folks from responding with mockery, derision, and even the theory that it’d been a Freudian slip.

Case in point:

The gaffe came a day after Biden made international headlines by fist-bumping Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a man who’s been accused of being everything from a “psychopath” to a “tyrant.”

The fist-bump, considered by many to also be a gaffe, triggered widespread condemnation, including from the president’s allies in the establishment press and even from high-ranking Democrat congressman Adam Schiff.

“The fist bump between President Biden and Mohammed bin Salman was worse than a handshake — it was shameful. It projected a level of intimacy and comfort that delivers to MBS the unwarranted redemption he has been desperately seeking,” Fred Ryan, the publisher and CEO of The Washington Post, said in a statement.

“If we ever needed a visual reminder of the continuing grip oil-rich autocrats have on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, we got it today. One fist bump is worth a thousand words,” Schiff added in a tweet.

This gaffe similarly occurred a day after the president, looking befuddled and lost, accidentally voiced out loud that he’d been “given a list” of pre-approved reports to call on during a press conference in Jerusalem.

“Mr. President, do you want to call on the next question?” the event’s moderator asked  him.

“Sure. I was given a list here. Steve Holland of Reuters,” the president replied.

This gaffe in turn occurred a day after the president made his biggest gaffe of all — thus far, at least — and referred to “the honor of the Holocaust” while speaking from Tel Aviv.

“Later today, I will once more return to the hallowed ground of … Yad Vashem to honor the six million Jewish lives that were stolen in a genocide, and continue — which we must do every, every day — continue to bear witness, to keep alive the truth and honor of the Holocaust — horror of the Holocaust — honor those we lost, so that we never, ever forget that lesson, you know, and to continue our shared, unending work to fight the poison of anti-Semitism wherever it raises its ugly head,” he said.

*facepalm*

Incidentally, Vice President Kamala Harris has in recent days been embroiled in her own litany of gaffe scandals as well.

Speaking from the White House on Wednesday — the day that the president began his own veritable gaffe tour, ironically enough — the VP spewed out a word salad while talking about federal investments in workforce development.

“Together, we are expanding access to transportation. Seems like maybe it’s a small issue. It’s a big issue. You need to get to go, and you to be able to get where you need to go, to do the work, and get home,” she said.
