The latest edition of the ongoing January 6 committee spectacle took place on Tuesday and, while it lacked the attention grabber of testimony from a star “witness” like Cassidy Hutchinson, there was a “bombshell” revelation about an allegedly heated meeting at the White House between dueling factions of advisers to former President Donald J. Trump.
During the seventh in a series of hearings that appear to be set to drag on indefinitely, details emerged about the “unhinged” December 18, 2020 meeting that stretched late into the night where Trump’s outside advisers clashed with insiders including White House counsel Pat Cipollone, a clip of whose closed door testimony to the committee was played for the audience.
In the meeting, a group that included Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, attorney Sidney Powell, retired Gen. Michael Flynn and former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne encouraged the the-president to continue to contest the election results against the advice of his White House advisers. The session reportedly devolved into profane shouting matches, accusations of disloyalty, and challenges to physically throw down.
J6 committee Democrat and former impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin described the meeting as “heated and profane” during the hearing.
Giuliani, who was escorted from the White House that night said in his testimony played by the committee, “You guys are not tough enough. Or maybe I put it another way: You’re a bunch of pussies, excuse the expression. I’m almost certain the word was used.”

“I don’t think any of these people were providing the president with good advice. I didn’t understand how they had gotten in,” said Cipollone in his video testimony.
Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley gave his thoughts about the meeting during an appearance on Tuesday’s edition of “America’s Newsroom,” essentially saying that the committee’s steak lacked sizzle.
“I actually thought it was very interesting because Cipollone was very abridged, very narrow, very careful in his remarks. He specifically at one point said ‘I don’t want to say anything that the president said in these meetings’ and so he’s trying to hold that line,” he said.
Turley added, “This did not seem to be a gold mine for the committee, and in fact, there were some reports Cipollone was not specifically asked about contradictions that he had with other witnesses but he was trying to keep that careful line. Now It’s still damaging, the account of that meeting and the office is really breathtaking, it’s very disturbing.”
“At one point there was a suggestion there might be fisticuffs, it was almost like Doctor Strangelove, and ‘no fighting in the war room,’ it was just a bizarre moment of you’re in the Oval Office and people seem to be actually chest pounding,” he said. “So this is very disturbing, all of these details should disturb everyone, but the question is what is trying to be achieved here, are they trying to show they’ve got an actual criminal case, are they trying to amplify the previous narrative?”
Turley later said, “I tend to look at these things as a criminal defense attorney and I gotta tell you, I still don’t see the criminal case here to be made out, they haven’t created that nexus.”
