DeSantis punches back at Newsom over Florida ad, brags about California plates

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis punched back at his California counterpart Gavin Newsom after the left-wing Democrat ran a deceptive ad on the Fourth of July holiday weekend, inviting any residents of the Sunshine State who are disenchanted by its freedom and tough stance against groomers in classrooms to relocate to the Mecca for lockdowns, economic misery and moral degeneracy that is the model society for Democrats.

On Friday, the Republican leader delivered the facts on Newsom’s dishonest portrayal, skewering the greasy character who is emerging as many on the progressive left’s favorite alternative to the enormously unpopular – and flailing – President Joe Biden in 2024.

Speaking at a news conference in Cape Coral where he provided details on his executive order to lower the cost of prescription drugs for Floridians, DeSantis was asked about Newsom’s sleazy attack ad and didn’t hold anything back with an epic rebuttal that was a real crowd-pleaser.

“Everybody wants to talk about me and Florida. I’m just sitting here, little old me, doing my job,” DeSantis said. “I can just tell you this. I was born and raised in this state and until the last few years, I rarely, if ever, saw a California license plate in the state of Florida. You now see a lot of them. I can tell you if you go to California, you ain’t seeing very many Florida license plates,” as the crowd clapped and laughed.

“As he was locking down his citizens, he would then go and have these extravagant dinners at the French Laundry, to basically rub his citizens’ noses in the fact that he was treating them like peasants,” DeSantis said, referring to Newsom’s being busted violating his own COVID protocols living it up a swanky Napa Valley eatery while the little people were being crushed under the heel of his boot.

“You know, in Florida, we weren’t locking ’em down, we lifted our people up,” he added to more applause. “We made sure to protect individual’s freedoms, we wanted to, we guaranteed everybody to have a right to work, to earn a living, put food on the table, we guaranteed the right of small businesses, in particular, to be able to operate and that saved hundreds of thousands of jobs and many thousands of businesses from going under, we guaranteed every person, every parent had the right to have their kids in school in person five days a week starting at the very beginning of this back in 2020.”

“In California, they locked kids out of school…,” he pointed out, “they had the lowest percentage of in-person learning of any state in the country in 2020, 2021 school year because the teachers’ union (s) run that state. It’s not run for the best interests of parents and kids, it’s run for that.”

DeSantis continued, “You also look at how we support law enforcement in the state of Florida, we would never allow what’s happened in places like San Francisco and LA where these areas have been destroyed with drugs and crime and homeless to happen, we take those, that seriously and we believe when people commit crimes, they belong behind bars, not released back onto the street.”

In Newsom’s ad, which ran on Florida Fox affiliates, the California lockdown king claimed that Republican leaders were restricting speech in classrooms, banning books, making it harder to vote and “criminalizing” doctors, all of which are gross distortions of policies put into place by DeSantis, a popular governor who is set to steamroll his feckless Democrat opponent in November.

Newsom also veered into Orwellian territory in his effort to lure Florida leftists into the hellish dystopian nightmare that he rules over, “join us in California, where we still believe in freedom: Freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate, and the freedom to love. Don’t let them take your freedom.”

DeSantis has previously expressed a negative opinion of the Golden State, especially the city of San Francisco where Newsom was once mayor, the once pristine American city that has been overrun by filth with the streets strewn with human feces and used drug needles, referring to the city by the Bay as a “dumpster fire” due to Democrat rule.

Newsom, who survived a recall effort and is cruising to reelection is looking to elevate his national profile amid his party’s geriatric leadership and the lack of a bench that was cleared to make way for Hillary Clinton and never recovered. And attacking DeSantis will definitely get him plenty of free press from the corrupt media.
