The View’s Joy Behar answers retirement rumors

When the popular daytime gabfest “The View” opens its 26th season in September, the ladies at the table will be back with a vengeance after ringleader Joy Behar put rumors of her impending retirement to rest by signing a new three-year deal with ABC.

Behar who is the show’s last remaining original host pushed back against reports that she was planning to call it a career just shy of her 80th birthday at the end of her current three-year contract which is set to expire.

A representative for the feisty leftist host told the New York Post that rumors of her demise were “fake news” and that she had agreed to head up the snake pit of vicious harpies until 2025, a deal that ensures her presence throughout the 2024 elections, possibly the most contentious contest in the nation’s history.

“It’s unclear how much money ABC forked over for Behar, although it’s likely that it’s paying the controversial comedian a handsome, eight-figure sum,” the outlet reported, adding that she “was purportedly paid $7 million per year as part of her previous three-year deal with the network.”

The brash, outspoken New Yorker was featured along with fellow hosts Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos and Barbara Walters when the show made its debut in 1997, leaving as a regular in 2013 although continuing to appear as a guest before rejoining the regular lineup in 2015.

“Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in,” Behar quipped about her return, quoting Al Pacino’s famous line as mob boss Michael Corleone in the finale to “The Godfather” series.

“I’m happy to be back home. And I’m looking forward to sticking my two cents into the hot topics, especially now that Hillary and the Donald are in the spotlight,” she said before the fateful 2016 election when the iconoclastic billionaire businessman upset the heavily favored Clinton, sending Behar and her fellow leftists over the edge into long-term Trump Derangement Syndrome.

It has been a turbulent season for “The View” which just celebrated its 25th anniversary with a series of shows from a swanky resort in the Bahamas where the wealthy regulars lived it up in a $14K per night villa at a time when the vast majority of their audience are struggling to make ends meet amidst record gas and food prices.

In a season of transition after the departure of in-house conservative punching bag Meghan McCain, the show was the subject of much controversy, including the suspension of longtime co-host Whoopi Goldberg after her insensitive remarks minimizing The Holocaust.

Behar survived a scare when she took a spill in front of the live studio audience in March, missing her seat and going down hard but fortunately avoiding injury from her unfortunate accident.

With Behar on board as the show’s anchor, “The View” is expected to announce the new permanent replacement for McCain who will serve as a human chew toy for the leftist regulars instead of a conservative woman who can fight back.

Among the candidates for a seat at the table are Alyssa Farrah Griffin who served as the White House director of strategic communications under former President Donald J. Trump and former GOP communications director Tara Setmayer, both of whom are reportedly under consideration “with some sources hinting that Farrah is likely to be the frontrunner,” the New York Post reported.
