Pushaw rips USA Today disinformation reporter over debunked DeSantis hit piece pushed by Stephen King

Democrats are obviously terrified of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), taking every opportunity they can to smear him including recycling disinformation that was previously debunked by fact-checkers and the leftist media themselves.

The latest attempt fell flat almost immediately. DeSantis’ detractors once again claimed that he signed a bill in 2021 that requires students, faculty, and staff at public universities to register their political views with the state. The assertion was made last year by Salon with The Washington Post and The Hill running with the fake news.

DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw took journalist Josh Meyer who works for USA Today to the woodshed for spreading the false reporting.

“You are a ‘disinformation reporter’ for USA Today. It’s supposedly your job to scrutinize sources and identify disinformation, even when it’s spread by left-wing media (as it usually is, BTW). But you blasted this out without fact-checking because it fits your BIASES,” she said, effectively torching the story.

Too late, Meyer tried to backtrack but he didn’t take any blame for it, “Didn’t know this was debunked (or a year old), or I wouldn’t have suggested more reporting needed on it, folks. But thanks for the fan mail! Maybe you should save it for @Salon for not correcting or clarifying it if it’s actually incorrect!”

The actual legislation that DeSantis signed on June 23, 2021, required the State Board of Education and the Board of Governors to “select or create an objective, nonpartisan, and statistically valid survey” to collect data on different perspectives and ideas that are being presented at colleges and whether students feel free to express their beliefs in the classroom.

Meyer should not feel alone. He wasn’t the only one to run with the fake news again in an effort by leftists to once again disparage DeSantis.

“ICYMI: Ron DeSantis signs bill requiring Florida students and professors to register their political views with the state,” former National Finance Chair of Draft Biden 2016, Jon Cooper, stated in a viral post.

Unlike Meyer, Cooper didn’t even have the grace to amend his tweet pointing out the error. But he did post this gem:

Caution: Adult Language

PolitiFact and members of the media nailed Cooper’s viral post as inaccurate.

“This viral post is inaccurate. Further, it references a law passed in 2021 and makes a claim that was debunked that same year. Even the article it links to was written in 2021. Look before you retweet,” ABC News reporter Jay O’Brien advised.

Regardless, leftists such as horror author Stephen King ran with the debunked claim.

“DeSantis signs bill requiring Florida students, professors to register political views with state. I. Can’t. Even,” he tweeted with abandon and a noticeable lack of conscience.

The false reporting was called out for what it is… a lie.

Pushaw told the Daily Caller that Twitter’s “blinding partisan hatred” resulted in the misinformation.

“Liberal Twitter is wrong again,” she noted in an interview with the media outlet. “In fact, that might be a more worthwhile story: how does liberal Twitter get it so wrong, so often? We believe it has a lot to do with blinding partisan hatred that eclipses the facts. No, students and faculty are not required to ‘register their political views.’ This same fake claim was circling the liberal Twittersphere after the bill was signed in 2021. It was debunked then. It has been debunked again, now. (Even liberal fact-checkers had to give it up on this one.)”

“The college campus is supposed to be a place to freely discuss ideas, weigh them against one another, and draw informed conclusions. It is not supposed to be an indoctrination camp pushing any singular ideology,” Pushaw asserted.
