Despite our fondest hopes, Meghan Markle just won’t go away.
She’s like a bad penny and keeps turning up in the strangest of places. For instance, we are now given to understand that Markle is furious over the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and that her husband — who apparently was once an individual of some importance, and was even in line for the British throne — is a “feminist.”
On the other hand, one gets a distinct feeling that Markle’s husband is whatever Markle wants him to be.
In any case, the Duchess of Sussex is reportedly all in a lather over the Supreme Court’s ruling, and she’s so worked up that she’s even contemplating entering US politics—as if that’s not what she’s been involved in for a very long time indeed. Recently, Markle appeared in Vogue to talk about “abortion rights” with Gloria Steinem, the famed feminist, and Jessica Yellin, founder of an independent media company called News Not Noise.
At one point in the interview, Markle said to Steinem: “Well, Gloria, it seems as though you and I will be taking a trip to DC together soon,” in what many saw as a clear reference to her desire to involve herself further in the nation’s political scene. But Markle also had a message for men.
Yellin, who conducted the interview, made the profound observation that “[t]here is never an abortion without sperm,” and then asked Markle what she would say to men who support reproductive rights.
“Men need to be vocal in this moment and beyond because these are decisions that affect relationships, families, and communities at large,” the former actress replied. “They may target women, but the consequences impact all of us. My husband and I talked about that a lot over the past few days. He’s a feminist too.”

“And his reaction last week was guttural, like mine,” Meghan added, using a term describing a “harsh, grating quality” that proceeds from the throat.
“I know that for so many women right now, there is a sentiment of despair. But again, we have to band together and not wallow. We have to do the work,” she said.
It’s likely that the Duchess intended to convey that their reaction was visceral, rather than guttural—unless the Supreme Court ruling was so overwhelming and emotional that it caused them to begin speaking in a harsh and throaty fashion reminiscent of the German language.
The whole interview seemed a very strange one for such committed leftists since there was a constant reference to things like “men” and “women,” which the left contends are outmoded and barbaric concepts that have no place in civilized discourse.
At one point, Markle said: “This is having a very real impact on women’s bodies and lives starting now. Women are already sharing stories of how their physical safety is being put in danger. Women with resources will travel to get an abortion, those without might attempt to give themselves one at tremendous risk.”
“What does this tell women?” she asked. “It tells us that our physical safety doesn’t matter, and as a result that we don’t matter. But we do. Women matter.”
But, as Matt Walsh might ask, what the hell is a woman? Markle seems to know instinctively, but she refuses to let us in on the secret.
Later, Markle explained that the decision is particularly severe for women of color.
“Women of color and especially Black women are most impacted by these decisions because most of us don’t have the same access to health care, economic opportunity, mental health resources…the list goes on.” A more out-of-touch statement, from a woman who is quite literally royalty, could hardly be imagined.
As could only be expected from Steinem and Markle, the interview is nauseatingly solipsistic and self-absorbed, but it at least shows that Markle has no plans to leave the rest of us in peace—confirming a rumor bruited about some years ago that the reason she refused to renounce her US citizenship when she married into the Royal Family was so she could pursue a political career in the future, up to and including the presidency of the United States.
And if that doesn’t elicit a guttural reaction, what will?
