Not that any additional proof is needed that haughty liberal elitists are indifferent to the economic concerns of the little people, but Mehdi Hasan, one of the rich snobs at MSNBC offered it up anyway but soon deleted his tweet mocking a restaurant owner’s concerns about a recession.
Hasan, who hosts the “Mehdi Hasan Show” at the far-left cable network, took to Twitter on Friday to express his dismay over the unnamed “local restaurant” owner daring to suggest that he may not be reaping the benefits of President Joe Biden’s wondrous economic policies, grumbling about the economic woes of real people who are being crushed by record gas and food costs and whose grumbling fails to show the proper degree of reverence to dear leader.
According to Hasan, “I went to pick up food from a local restaurant yesterday.”
“Me: “did you guys survive the pandemic craziness?” Hasan wrote, recounting the conversation. “Owner: “yeah we did but now we have this new craziness, the recession.”
“There is no recession. The US has been breaking records on growth and jobs. But, y’know, vibes,” he concluded, brushing off the remarks from someone whom he clearly believes is beneath him for a technicality.

In another tweet, Hasan sought to explain his remarks to critics who apparently weren’t smart enough to properly digest his pearls of wisdom.
“yes, inflation is high. Inflation does *not* equal *recession* he wrote. “”yes many people are still struggling in America. They always have been. That’s *not* a recession. And if you care about struggling Americans, join me in backing M4A and a higher minimum wage,” mixing in a generous dollop of Democratic Party talking points.
To my critics:
1) yes, inflation is high. Inflation does *not* equal *recession*.
2) yes many people are still struggling in America. They always have been. That’s *not* a recession. And if you care about struggling Americans, join me in backing M4A and a higher minimum wage.

Needless to say, reactions weren’t kind to the arrogant talking head.
Inflation means that most Americans are suffering. The government may not declare this as a recession but it is for most of us

imagine being the idiot who doesn’t understand that increasing the minimum wage will negatively impact the business owner he claims to care about and understand.

Being pedantic about the definition of recession doesn’t change the fact that people are hurting and perceive us to already be in recession.

OMG. biz owner prob barely survived the pandemic just to have people cut down on dining out bc they can’t afford their gas. Why is this hard to understand? Seriously, who got you this job? your mom or dad?

A small business owner doesn’t need a lesson on economics to know they are struggling financially. Pointing out the difference makes no difference to their bottom line.

The latest official figures that were released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics last week show that inflation is now at a level not seen in four decades, a major factor in the lives of small business owners like the restaurant owner who was jabbed by Hasan. And while the U.S. is at least not technically in a recession yet, there is no denying that people are hurting.
After two days of being flogged, Hasan cried “Uncle” and deleted his tone-deaf tweet.
“Ok I give up. Having been dunked on all weekend for using a badly-told personal anecdote to try & make a point about how widespread misinformation about the economy is right now, which made me come across to some as out-of-touch & insensitive, I deleted the tweet thread. My bad,” he wrote.
I do think we should be able to point out that there isn’t a recession, that inflation doesn’t equal a recession, & that the US economy is performing well on jobs and growth, without being accused of being Marie Antoinette, but still, that’s on me as a communicator to do better.
