Newsmax moves Eric Bolling to prime spot: ‘Tucker, coming after you, pal’

During his tenure with Newsmax, host Eric Bolling has repeatedly drawn a distinction between himself and his former Fox News colleague, Tucker Carlson. As part of a shakeup at the network, the host appeared to shift into a full-on assault Friday as he warned, “Tucker, coming after you, pal.”

Bolling, 59, who had previously worked for CNBC, Fox News, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and TheBlaze joined Newsmax in late July 2021 to fill their 4 p.m. slot with his show “Eric Bolling The Balance.” Now, less than a year later he announced at the end of the Friday broadcast that, starting Tuesday, “The Balance” would be airing in prime time.

“We’ve been teasing this throughout the show and I have the honor of breaking the news first,” Bolling stated after having hyped the announcement earlier.

After thanking the audience, his crew, and Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy for making the switch to 8 p.m. possible, Bolling called out his new competitors by name.

“Anderson Cooper, lookout. Coming after you. Chris Hayes, coming after you,” he added before targeting the nightly leader in cable-news ratings, “Tucker, coming after you, pal. Got you in our sights.”

Of course, the Newsmax host has had Carlson in his sights for some time and has routinely smeared the Fox News host by likening him to a “Putin-puppet” as many within the halls of corporate media have done to anyone who did not fully back American intervention against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Make no mistake, Russia is on the wrong side of history. And what’s more,” Bolling posited in a manner that suggested Carlson somehow contended Putin was in the right, “if we say anything otherwise, then we are on the wrong side of history too.”

When Bolling was hired, Ruddy stated, “Viewers know and trust Eric Bolling as one of the most tenacious guys in TV news, and insiders know he’s a true veteran who is driven to follow the facts and deliver the news.”

As such, the network appears to be endorsing and encouraging the attempted character assassination of Carlson for the purpose of boosting their own ratings.

It remains to be seen how beneficial this move will be for Newsmax as, according to ShowBuzzDaily on Wednesday, Bolling pulled in about 176,000 viewers compared to “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on Fox News garnering nearly 1.5 million viewers. Even Jake Tapper on CNN got 630,000 viewers in the 4 p.m. time slot.

“Stinchfield,” which is being replaced by “The Balance” for Newsmax at 8 p.m., only had 216,000 viewers compared to “Tucker Carlson Tonight” which dominated with more than 3.1 million viewers. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes had more than 1.2 million and CNN’s Anderson Cooper had 637,000 viewers.

At the time of this posting, there has been no announcement as to where Grant Stinchfield will end up in the programming, but Greta Van Susteren who recently signed with Newsmax will be appearing at 6 p.m. on the network.
