Mother whose teen son relies on formula rips politicians: ‘Is anybody in Congress not eating for 90 days?’

In President Joe Biden’s America, the baby formula shortage continues to plague grocery store shelves across the country, alarming parents who rely on baby formula for their children as a life or death matter.

Claire Rowan – whose teenage son is completely dependent on baby formula due to his severe food allergies – illustrated just how “challenging” the “desperate times” have been to make sure her son has sufficient nourishment.

“Is anybody in Congress not eating for 90 days?” she challenged CNN host Jake Tapper on Friday’s episode of “The Lead With Jake Tapper.”

“We have been very, very grateful for the support of our community and our families, but it is desperate times, most certainly,” Rowan said.

“And hearing about those other families in similar circumstances to ours, it’s nerve-racking to not know every day when you’re going to run out, if there’s going to be an option to feed your child the next day,” she said.

Rowan’s 16-year-old son has been solely dependent on Elecare Jr. Formula being fed through a tube due to a potentially fatal protein allergy. She explained to Tapper that although she was able to get a prescription for a different formula, none of that particular type was actually available once she got to the medical supplier.

Tapper asked if Rowan was optimistic that perhaps one of the hypoallergenic formulas that are slated to be available soon thanks to Biden’s oh-so-creatively named “Operation Fly Formula” could be suitable for her son.

“It could. And I think that perhaps all parents who have medically fragile children are in the same circumstance, which until you try something new and are approved by your doctor to try something new, you don’t know if it’s going to work,” Rowan said.

Rowan noted that she has been struggling to find enough formula for at least 90 days and had yet to see any relief that government officials have promised – the most help has been from the community of parents that have rallied to support each other during this trying time.

“The number of parents, the people who on the ground are sharing resources and helping each other, has been the only way that we have gotten through this,” Rowan told Tapper. “This has not been a help we have really received from anybody in an industry or the government. It has truly been just the work of families helping each other, so to me, four days sounds great, but who wants to go four days without eating?”

“Is anybody in Congress not eating for 90 days because that’s what we’re asking of some of these children potentially if we don’t come up with a better answer,” she added.
