Newly reported emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop are sure to raise speculation as to their intent as it turns out, then-Vice President Joe Biden was sharing highly negative news stories about presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton during her 2016 campaign with simple captions like, “Interesting.”
Two of the three emails being highlighted came from October 2015 surrounding the time when Biden made clear that he would not be launching his own bid for the presidency during the 2016 cycle. While they address issues with failing support in specific demographics and a question of conflict of interest for a top Clinton aide, as the Daily Mail reported, the third email from February 2016 may be the most sensational.
First shared by the New York Post on Tuesday, the email that had the subject line “Interesting,” linked to a column from a RealClearPolitics article titled “Hillary’s Victories Mean Painful Legal Choices for DOJ, WH.”
Within the column by Charles Lipson, a political science professor for the University of Chicago, details surrounding Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server that she used to “store over 1,800 documents now deemed classified, some highly classified,” are covered and questions are raised about the possibility of an indictment by then-director of the FBI James Comey.
The email was sent from the vice president to his wife Jill Biden, his sister Valerie Biden Owens and her husband, Jack Owens, his brother Jim Biden, his kids and their spouses, and Mike Donilon and Steve Ricchetti, top aides at the time who continue to work for the now-president in his current administration.
Lipson argued at the time that if Comey didn’t recommend criminal charges, “he will put DOJ and the White House in a very tight box,” and that he wouldn’t present anything if it weren’t a “strong, winnable case.” The professor also suggested Comey would “present evidence of dozens and dozens of felonies.”
The conclusion from the piece was that “Indictment on even a few felonies is a torpedo beneath the waterline for Clinton,” and her campaign would be ruined. Though Comey recommended against prosecuting Clinton in July 2016, the issue was reopened less than two weeks before the election for which Clinton partially blamed her defeat.
The second email from October 2015 shared by the Daily Mail is also of note as it relates to Cheryl Mills, an aide for Clinton who, “In 2009, while Ms. Mills held the second most powerful job at State, she also represented New York University as it negotiated with officials from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.”
Mills working for the State Department while privately getting paid to hash out lucrative deals presented a massive conflict of interest, something that holds remarkable similarities to arrangements that Biden and son Hunter are alleged to have.
In light of these emails, and those similarities, Biden’s 2017 revelation as to why he didn’t run in 2016 is even more telling. While it was believed he was still coping with the death of his son Beau Biden, in his 2017 book, “Promise Me, Dad,” Biden explained that he had a concern about opposition research.
Ironically, Biden used his own private email to share these stories while still holding public office, something he would later find himself in trouble for as well. None of the emails provide commentary, leaving room for interpretation as to the intent of sharing the information with his inner circle.
