Billionaire Elon Musk’s attempted takeover bid of social media giant Twitter has generated much speculation on what changes he would make if he is able to overcome fierce opposition to take control, and one major question is whether he would reinstate former President Donald J. Trump’s access to the platform.
Twitter, along with every other social media company, pulled the plug on the embattled POTUS after his political enemies exploited the hysteria over the so-called “insurrection” of January 6 to cancel him, an unprecedented move for a political leader let alone the sitting U.S. president.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has been very open about restoring free speech to Twitter, possibly lifting the ban on Trump, but establishment opposition to Musk is growing and on Friday, the company’s board voted in favor of a “poison pill” to keep the censorship in place.
On Friday’s edition of “Outnumbered,” the Fox News panel discussed the latest developments in the Musk-Twitter saga, and the regulars were joined by Fox News Radio host Jimmy Failla who offered up his provocative take that if Musk does end up running the San Francisco-based company, that he should not reinstate the former and perhaps future president’s account.
The hosts began with a discussion lambasting leftist journalists and pundits critical of Musk’s moves and who are pulling out all the stops to keep censorship in place, including former Obama administration David Axelrod who predicts that Trump’s return is all but a done deal if the outspoken mogul is able to pull it off.
“I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy,” Mr. Musk said.

Following a much-spirited discussion between co-hosts Dagen McDowell and Emily Compagno, the host of “Fox Across America” jumped in.
”And, Jimmy, so ok, Elon Musk is going to buy Twitter, hopes to buy Twitter for billions. He’s also put in an offer to buy CNN for $28, which was my favorite troll, which is the only reason I’m on Twitter, just to see the good jokes,” said Compagno of Musk’s epic jab at the already failing streaming service.
“He did bid a little high there didn’t he?” Failla said. “I do have some takes and they are controversial so anybody has any issue with that tweet me @EmilyCompagno.”
“I love how the left is pretending, because they have for four years, like, aw Twitter doesn’t favor us, they never favor us, what is everybody talking about Twitter favors us,’” he said.
“Now Twitter is about to change hands and they are losing their minds,” he added.
“This is like someone saying you’re an alcoholic and you say, no, I am not’ and then you dump out a beer and they’re like ‘What are you doing? Oh my God, I need the beer,'” he joked.
“But the reason they’re mad, and this is the reason is because they got really lazy when it comes to political discourse and that they’ve never had to participate in the free exchange of ideas,” he continued, “they’ve simply labeled anything they disagree with as hate speech and made it go away, now they actually have to work.”
“And the hypocrisy of this is hilarious because everybody who’s mad about billionaires getting involved, didn’t say a word when Mark Zuckerberg was spending $520 million on the last election,” he added. “And for all of the talk about billionaires shouldn’t control things, what were they doing when they threw Trump off Twitter?”
Failla then dropped what could be an unpopular opinion with many conservatives. “You know, the only thing I would tell Elon is if you care about the country, I actually don’t think Trump should get back on.”
He then gave his rationale.
“The reason I am saying that is because with him off, we’re paying attention to real substance now, instead of them pretending the news cycle should be about which Saturday Night Live actor he didn’t like this weekend. We are focusing on substance and that’s why Biden’s getting crushed,” he said.
“I think Biden would pay Elon to let Trump back on Twitter at this point,” said Failla.
