RNC chair cries ‘blatant censorship’ after YouTube removes podcast with Trump over ‘misinformation’

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced Saturday that YouTube had removed her interview with former President Donald Trump, calling the “chilling” move “blatant censorship” that she believes could affect “any citizen who they view as stepping out of line.”

McDaniel had conducted the interview with Trump for her “Real America” podcast geared toward showing “how Republican policies are working,” and sharing the “great stories of conservative leadership” that mainstream media avoids. The March 8 discussion with the president covered a wide range of topics that included the economy and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

However, the fact that the conversation mentioned concerns about the 2020 election was evidently too much for YouTube which decided to remove the video for violating “election integrity policy, which prohibits content that advances false claims that widespread fraud changed the outcome of the 2020 U.S. presidential election, such as claiming that the election was rigged,” the Washington Times reported.

“YouTube has removed the episode of #RealAmerica featuring President Trump,” McDaniel posted on Twitter. “Their decision to remove a conversation between former President Trump and the Chairwoman of the @GOP is just the latest example of Big Tech’s chilling approach to censoring conservative opinion.”

“Silicon Valley oligarchs,” she continued, “care more about advancing their political agenda and de-platforming their opponents than they do about free speech. This blatant censorship should concern every American: if they can silence a former president, they can silence any citizen who they view as stepping out of line.”

Ivy Choi, a spokeswoman for YouTube, disputed the claim that the removal of the video had anything to do with the fact that Trump, who has been banned from Twitter and Facebook since January 2021, was in it, and instead cited their policies that they argue are applied to everyone on the platform equally.

“Our policies apply to everyone,” Choi told the Times, “regardless of the uploader’s political views, and while we do allow content that provides additional context such as countervailing views, the video we removed from this channel did not provide sufficient context.”

Though the video was pulled from YouTube, it is still available in other formats. So what exactly did Trump say that YouTube considered advancing “false claims” that the results could have been different?

“They don’t want to talk about election fraud,” Trump said, along with other issues that the “corrupt media” doesn’t want to cover. He added that the troubles with Russia wouldn’t be happening “had the election not been rigged.”

Later on, the president stated simply, “We did great in 2020. We did much better than we did in 2016. We got 12 million more votes, most votes ever gotten by a sitting president and, you know, a lot of bad things happened.”

When discussing the push by Democrats to remove voter ID laws in states across the country through legislation that McDaniel dubbed “Right to Cheat,” Trump pointed out the hypocrisy of Democrats who require identification to get into their own national convention and said it’s clear, “They want to cheat.”

Social media alternative CloutHub reacted to the news that YouTube censored Trump’s interview stating, “Tech giants claim that they want to protect free speech — but their actions prove the opposite. Big Tech is beyond redemption! #ThinkSpeakFreely”

YouTube had recently removed more than half of the Conservative Political Action Conference’s 2022 speeches citing “misinformation” before rejecting appeals, according to Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ).

“They only censor us because we speak the truth & they can’t risk the ACTUAL facts getting out!” Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) added.

YouTube eventually claimed violation of the same “election integrity policy” noted for the latest censorship, as reported by Newsbusters.
