Leave it to the leftists at MSNBC to exploit the suffering of the Ukrainian people to score cheap political points by playing the race card and that’s exactly what host Ali Velshi did when he suggested that those fleeing Vladimir Putin’s invaders are receiving preferential treatment because they are white Christians.

Velshi was reporting from Poland as a witness to President Joe Biden’s trip to Warsaw to meet with NATO leaders, a trip that has been marked by the “leader” of the free world’s verbal stumbles including a statement that the Russian leader that many interpreted as a call for regime change, prompting the White House to once again fly into damage control mode to clean up the mess.

During Saturday morning’s edition of “Velshi” the host welcomed guest Caitlin Dickerson, who writes for The Atlantic, which serves as the gospel to the establishment cultural elite to discuss the humanitarian crisis of the refugees who are being welcomed in nations including the United States which will accept 100,000 seeking to escape the carnage in their homeland.

When discussing the number of refugees that will be accepted and whether America could “do better than that,” Dickerson said that Biden had “moved to reinstate” former President Donald J. Trump’s “historic” low number in terms of refugee resettlement to keep it at 15 thousand a year but faced such intense “blowback” that he adjusted the number upwards.

Dickerson said at the 100,000 was just a “drop in the bucket” when looking at the number of refugees as a whole.

The MSNBC host then made it all about race, a common trick of the leftist network’s talking heads, “I think I know the answer to this, but why have we not been good at this?” Velshi asked.

“We were not good with the Afghans” he said. We were not good with the Syrians. We’re doing better with the Ukrainians, and a lot of people do sort of seem to think,  and they deserve all the help we can give them — but a lot of people do seem to think it’s because they’re white and Christians and the other ones aren’t.”

Dickerson replied “There are so many factors at play here, and I’ve spoken to a lot of experts this week who say it would be reductive to chalk up this distinction solely up to race,” noting that it was a problem fraught with complexities.

“But as you point out, there’s this undeniable difference that has a lot of people frustrated,” she added.

While Velshi’s attempt to make the misery of Ukrainians about race, he’s hardly the only media figure to do so.

Earlier this month, CBS’s Gayle King suggested that they are treated much better than the illegals at the southern border have been.

CBS also trotted out a black historian who suggested that Ukrainians who are fleeing for their lives are by beneficiary of the non-existent “white privilege,” a racist dog whistle of the progressive left regularly used to smear white people.

It’s a pretty pathetic statement that Velshi chose to interject race into the ongoing tragedy in Eastern Europe but the left is so thoroughly immersed in their own prejudices that sadly, it’s par for the course.
