Smash and grab robbers take $5M from Beverly Hills jewelry store in broad daylight

A smash-and-grab robbery, carried out by five men with sledgehammers, according to police, was caught on video when the group decided to target a luxury jewelry store.

Luxury Jewels of Beverly Hills was hit by the men who arrived in what police have identified as a stolen vehicle. However, upon fleeing they jumped into a different car.

Video shows the men breaking the windows and glass display cases before grabbing what they could and running.

Watch:

The owner of the store, Peter Sedghi, explained to local news station ABC7LA that the stolen goods were estimated to cost between $3 million and $5 million. At first, he believed the sounds he was hearing were from gunshots and told his staff to get to safety.

“It literally sounded like gunshots, so I told my staff, I yelled out, ‘everyone down on the floor.'”

A neighbor named Wesley Aframian from the businesses next door attempted to help, but all of the men still got away. For his efforts, though, he reportedly recovered a couple of watches that one of the men had dropped.

“I look outside, I see, there are five guys with sledgehammers, axes, hammers, they’re banging on the window,” Aframian explained. “And you know, we’re a jewelry store, they’re a jewelry store. We’re good friends with them. They’re very good people. I just reacted and tried to stop them.”

“I have one a nice kick, he lost his balance, he was falling over, and he started running. I pushed him on the street. He dropped a couple of the watches I was able to recover.”

This isn’t the first incident of its kind, and it likely won’t be the last. Large cities are seeing an increase in these kinds of criminal activities. As BizPac Review reported last year, Lieutenant Tracy McCray is blaming the uptick on soft-on-crime policies.

“For me, it’s very frustrating because I’m a native here, born and raised. The time I did spend… before I was promoted to lieutenant which is my day job, I see all of this in real time and it is concerning,” she commented. “I see this when I’m working, I see this when I’m off duty, I see this as a vice president of the union representing the men and women trying to serve this city to the best of their ability, I don’t know about our other partners, what they’re doing, but we have a problem, let’s recognize we have a problem and let’s get to a solution.”
