Russian President Vladimir Putin was greatly offended when President Joe Biden called him a “war criminal” last week and has summoned the U.S. ambassador to Moscow for a meeting where he received a “note of protest” which could potentially sever relations between the two countries.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not mince its words and warned that relations between the U.S. and Russia were on the verge of collapse because of Biden’s remarks and sanctions imposed on the communist country due to its brutal invasion of Ukraine, according to The Hill.
“It is emphasized that such statements by the American President, unworthy of a statesman of such a high rank, put Russian-American relations on the verge of breaking,” a statement from the Ministry contended, according to an English translation. “They warned that hostile actions taken against Russia would receive a decisive and firm rebuff.”
In addition to calling Putin a “war criminal,” Biden also called him a “thug” and a “murderous dictator” at the annual Friends of Ireland luncheon on St. Patrick’s Day on Capitol Hill, alluding to atrocities committed against Ukrainians by Russian forces.

U.S. Ambassador John Sullivan was summoned to the Kremlin according to the Russian statement, affirming he had been handed a “note of protest” over the “unacceptable statements.”
State Department spokesperson Ned Price confirmed to reporters that Sullivan met with Russian officials. He also noted that Sullivan broached the subject of U.S. citizens being detained in Russia such as WNBA star Brittney Griner.
“Ambassador Sullivan took advantage of this encounter to demand that the Russian government follow international law, and basic human decency for that matter, and allow consular access to all US citizen detainees in Russia, including those in pretrial detention,” Price said during a press briefing.
Biden’s branding of Putin as a “war criminal” was said to be from his heart in an off-the-cuff statement to a reporter. Secretary of State Antony Blinken would later agree with the president’s statement in an incendiary move that has ratcheted up tensions even more.

The president’s comments come after the Russians have attacked and killed thousands of Ukrainian civilians while displacing millions of others. They also reportedly bombed a packed theater, a maternity hospital, and an art school in Mariupol. The Biden administration sees the deliberate attacks against civilians as a war crime.
Russia has also further poked the NATO badger by allegedly employing a hypersonic missile to strike Ukraine.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan spoke with a senior Russian official last week and warned Moscow against the use of chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine. Using them would reportedly constitute crossing a red line for Biden.
As America’s relations seem to be on the verge of being severed with Russia, Poland is now bracing itself as it fears an invasion, according to Newsweek.
Dmitry Medvedev, who is the deputy chairman of the Russian security council, sent a warning to Poland just days before Biden will arrive there for talks.

“The interests of the citizens of Poland have been sacrificed due to Russophobia of ‘mediocre politicians’ and their ‘puppeteers from across the ocean’ with clear signs of senile insanity,” the former Russian president and prime minister wrote on Telegram.
“Poland forgets Soviet Army liberated it from Nazi occupation — instead, Soviet ‘occupation’ is equated with Nazism — this is a deceitful and disgusting rhetoric,” he declared, asserting that Poland’s decision to abandon the purchase of Russian gas, oil, and coal and the opposition to Nord Stream 2 has “already caused serious damage to the economy of this country.”
“The same applies to many other steps, which are based not on the economy, but on politicking under the guise of ‘de-Russification’. But now it is much more important for the Polish elites to swear allegiance to their overlord – America than to help their own citizens, so they will constantly support the fire of hatred for the enemy of Russia,” he proclaimed, adding that Polish citizens will gain “absolutely nothing” from doing so.
