Press secretary Jen Psaki told actor Rob Lowe during an interview on his podcast “Literally” that an artificial White House stage was constructed for President Joe Biden because of the pandemic and said that some reporters’ questions were “cuckoo.”
“It’s just a place where you can do events, but it’s really not that exciting, it’s kind of just an auditorium,” Psaki told Lowe during the podcast.
“Because of COVID and because the president was not going to travel as much and not as many people were not going come here, he does a lot of events and actually meetings from there,” Psaki commented, adding “where you can put up a bunch of people on screens and be able to see them and talk to them and engage with them in a way that you would do if he had 30 people in a meeting here.”
The set constructed in the South Court Auditorium in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building includes digital video screens behind the windows that make it appear as if the president is in the West Wing of the White House. She confirmed that they had added additional features to make it more friendly for streaming video conference calls.
“They built it out more to make it look a little bit better visually and to ensure that he can kind of engage with people and see them in different boxes,” she candidly commented.

Psaki then bragged that Biden has proven his ability to speak for a lengthy amount of time during his “record-breaking” two-hour-long press conference that took place in January.
“It was not planned. It was planned to be an hour,” she recounted and then confirmed that Biden “had a list of questioners just so he knew who to call on.
“I think in the moment he just decided to take some more questions,” Psaki claimed.
She asserted that she was “pretty chill” about the longer press conference but ultimately criticized reporters for questioning the president.
“I think when some of the questions started to be off in ‘cuckoo for coco puffs’ land there, I was thinking, where are we going here with this,” she bluntly stated.

Lowe played White House aide Sam Seaborn in “The West Wing” and evidently, Psaki is a huge fan of his. They spoke for nearly an hour on his podcast last month.
She confided to Lowe that she hadn’t watched “The West Wing,” which went off the air in 2006, until 2012, while she was working as a consultant after leaving the Obama White House.
“I binged, you know, the entire thing while I was at this consulting firm,” she said while admitting to being a “terrible” consultant.
“I would be working on decks, which is like the worst thing I’ve ever done at a job,” Psaki recalled. “And I would watch episodes of The West Wing. And in a crazy way, it really brought me back to come back to politics and I ended up coming back and doing the 2012 campaign working with then-President Obama on his re-election.”
