The GOP’s focus on investing in Hispanic communities shows evidence of paying off as recent polls indicate a shift in voter preference among Hispanic voters.
Macarena Martinez, the Republican National Committee’s Texas communications director highlighted how the RNC’s strategic investment, the largest in the organization’s history, is much more than advertising campaigns, during an interview with Fox News Digital,
“Here in Texas, we’ve had a number of different things going on, from cryptocurrency trainings to how to start your own business trainings, as well as, of course, speaking about the Republican Party and our mission down here,” Martinez said.
“But more than anything, these are community centers, not political offices. They’re in places that are not traditionally Republican. They’re in place where we feel we can really make inroads with the community,” she added.

The community outreach centers have opened across the southern half of the state where the previous election cycle indicated the possibility of an upswell in Republican support.
“During the 2020 election, we saw certain districts in South Texas as having a promising future for the GOP as we began to see a lot of Mexican-Americans, as well as in other states with Cuban-Americans and Columbian-Americans,” Martinez said. “…here in Texas, we saw a huge shift to the GOP during President Trump’s second presidential election, given his stance on immigration, given his stance on the border wall, backing the blue, supporting law and order.”
Martinez went on to highlight workers in the South Texas oil and gas industry who were unfavorable of President Biden’s energy policies during the campaign.
The southern border crisis has not only encouraged voters to switch their parties but representatives as well.
Texas state Rep. Ryan Guillen won his seat in the 2020 election as a Democrat by almost 17 points and has now joined the Republican Party over the Democrats’ open border and soft-on-crime platform.
Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Laredo, TX has also been outspoken against the Biden administration’s border policy and the titular responsibility bestowed upon Vice President Kamala Harris.
Cuellar stated that the press, “put a lot of focus on the Vice President, but with all due respect, she was given that title. I don’t think she’s, with all due respect, put the effort in there…We’ve got to look at other folks that have expertise on that.”
Unlike Guillen, Cuellar has not made any affiliation changes at this time. This may only be a matter of time however as new district lines have been drawn following the 2020 Census and, at the time of his comments, 76 percent of South Texans disapproved of Biden’s immigration policies.
“And I think nationally that the reason why a lot of Hispanics are leaving are just Democrat policies are failing them across the country. The economy is poor, and the supply chain crisis, the border.” RNC national press secretary Emma Vaughn stated.
“Crisis after crisis,” Vaughn continued, “Hispanics are being brought down and left behind. And under President Trump, they saw record-low unemployment, they saw record-high homeownership. So, I think it’s just the stark contrast between those policies is also driving nationally Hispanics moving to the Republican Party.”
The RNC hopes to truly localize this continued outreach at the community centers they open by hiring staffers from the areas they serve, Martinez pointed out, and they plan to move forward with this strategy throughout the rest of Texas and across the United States.
