Gabbard: Joe Rogan’s a threat because he can’t be controlled, every American should be afraid of being silenced

Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) warned of the “real danger” facing society as she highlighted her views on the erosion of American freedoms and recent attempts to cancel Joe Rogan.

In an interview with Fox News, host Tucker Carlson set the topic of their discussion before introducing Gabbard.

“You know who is for censorship? Weak people are for censorship…And the reason Joe Rogan is successful? Because he’s not weak. That is the truth,” he began on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Wednesday, referring to the popular podcaster.

Rogan has come under fire from some for recent interviews with Dr. Peter McCollough and Dr. Robert Malone where alternative responses to the pandemic were discussed.

With those sentiments in mind, Carlson questioned Gabbard, “It’s hard to imagine they are going to pull Joe Rogan off the air, but you don’t know once the ball starts rolling. What do you make of the attempts to censor Joe Rogan?”

“It is yet the latest indicator about the real danger we are facing as a society right now in this country,” Gabbard began, “is that this fundamental freedom guaranteed to every one of us as Americans, this freedom of speech, is being threatened.”

“People are being intimidated, their financial security is being threatened. They are being censored or being intimidated into censoring themselves,” the former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate continued.

“This freedom is the fabric of our Constitution, and the fact that this is what we are facing, that the powers that we decide if we don’t like the things that you are saying then we will find a way to silence you and censor you,” she added.

“This is something that every single American should be afraid of because we need to have the confidence in America that we can express ourselves, that we have the freedom to speak without the threat of punishment looming over us,” Gabbard told Carlson. “That right there is literally the difference between living in a democracy or living in a dictatorship.”

Gabbard also noted why Rogan appears to be such a major threat to the left.

“He is somebody who is curious, he encourages dialogue. Of course, he’s got his own opinions about things, but he can’t be put in a box and he can’t be controlled,” Gabbard said of Rogan. “Again, he is one example – unfortunately, he’s not the only example, there are many others who have experienced the brunt of this punishment who are either attempted to be silenced or censored or have been.”

This is not the first time that the former presidential candidate has called out the Biden administration for what she considers authoritarian behavior.

In a recent interview with Sean Hannity, Gabbard explained, “Well, what I see is people are struggling. And you can understand how people are frustrated and even angry at the fact that our government is failing us. And one of the most disturbing things I see coming out of this administration is how president Joe Biden has his attorney general targeting Americans as domestic terrorists for being quote, unquote, ‘anti-authority.’”

“What is so extremely dangerous about this, Sean, is that the president of the United States is the authority here in America,” she continued. “And so, if our president is targeting Americans for being quote, unquote ‘anti-authority,’ what they’re really saying is, ‘You are an enemy of the state if you are against the president or his policies.’”

Gabbard also commented to Fox News’ Jesse Waters in September that while Biden has historically been, “very outspoken against autocrats, autocracies, [and] dictators,” his take on a photo controversy at the border was quite the opposite.

Biden said at the time, “To see people treated like they did, horses barely running over, people being strapped – it’s outrageous.  I promise you, those people will pay. There will be an investigation underway now and there will be consequences. There will be consequences.”

Gabbard remarked at the time that what Biden did “was act as judge, jury, and executioner for these Customs and Border Patrol agents. How can they expect to have any kind of fair outcome to an investigation when the president of the United States has already declared their guilt and that they will be punished?”

The bigger issue Gabbard concluded with was, “if we are no longer a country of laws, if we are no longer a country where we know we will be presumed innocent unless proven guilty, then we don’t have a democracy. That’s the increasing feeling that a lot of us have, that we are losing our democracy and moving closer and closer to what essentially is an autocracy.”
