Nigel Farage, the former leader of the Brexit Party, joined Fox News’ “Fox and Friends First” Tuesday to offer some analysis of President Biden’s recent meeting with European leaders as tensions mount at the border of Russia and Ukraine.
Farage told host Carly Shimkus that NATO members are hesitant to place trust in Biden after his deadly decision to surrender Afghanistan to the troglodyte Taliban; a move that has severely weakened U.S. alliances in the West.
“I’m pleased that the NATO leaders spoke. But please don’t forget this: Since Biden’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan, it is not easy for other NATO members – and don’t forget the UK are the second-biggest military member of NATO – it’s not easy for us to trust anything that Biden says,” Farage declared.
Though Biden claimed to the press that the meeting was productive, Farage said that both Biden and U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson are looking at the foreign policy nightmare through rose-colored glasses.
Germany, he said, has a very different position on the matter as they have made themselves “almost wholly dependent” on Russian natural gas, which Vladimir Putin can deny them at any time. Other countries that border the Russian Federation, he says, are significantly more concerned about a possible invasion of Ukraine and are nervously hopeful that NATO will maintain a position of strength and deterrence in the region.
The current NATO position is the threat of sanctions, one, and an amassing of troops to be deployed not in Ukraine but to NATO members in eastern Europe. While sanctions would make life inconvenient for Russia as a whole, Putin can essentially close down Germany and affect all of Western Europe by shutting off the gas supply to the region. As such, Farage believes Putin has a much stronger hand than do Biden and NATO.
Farage added that while the British are said to be leading the way in terms of supplying equipment and training to Ukraine, neither the American nor the British public appear to have any appetite for what could become a protracted war akin to Afghanistan should Putin order Russian forces into Ukraine.
Ultimately, Farage argued, the current situation along the Russia/Ukraine border would never have developed if NATO member nations were unequivocally resolved against Russian aggression and had absolute faith in American leadership.
“I would put this to you. There would not be 120,000 Russian troops on the Ukrainian border if Biden had not done that catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan. If Donald Trump was president. So, much of this, it has to be said, is of the US president’s making. And what Putin can see is a West with very real divisions despite those nice words we heard a couple of minutes ago,” he said.
Of the four years of Russian collusion hoaxes and the accusations that Brexit happened because of Russian influence, Farage concluded that “the boot’s on the other foot.”
“It’s people like Biden approving the [Nord Stream 2] pipeline … it’s actually the globalists that have played into Putin’s hands in the most remarkable way, and he’s completely outplayed the West in every way,” he said.
“He’s now got us very divided.”
