RealClearNews reporter Philip Wegmann made headlines during President Joe Biden’s record-long press conference Wednesday, calling out Biden over his Georgia comments concerning the voting rights bill while getting yelled at in the process, but he’s not backing down over his questions.

The reporter proved he would not be intimidated by Biden’s childish outburst and took to Twitter to deliver his own fact-check of sorts.

“You know, you campaigned and you ran on a return to civility,” Wegmann said during his questioning of Biden. “And I know that you dispute the characterization that you called folks who would oppose those voting bills as being ‘Bull Connor’ or ‘George Wallace,’ but you said that they would be sort of in the same camp…”

Before he could even finish his question, the president snapped at him, denying that he compared Republicans and Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to segregationists George Wallace, Bull Conner, and Jefferson Davis.

“No, I didn’t say that,” Biden angrily stated. “Look, what I said, go back and read what I said! And tell me, if you think I called anyone who voted on the side of a position taken by Bull Connor that they were Bull Connor.”

“That is an interesting reading in English,” the President sarcastically said. “I assume you got into journalism because you like to write.”

“Do you expect that that would work with Senators Manchin or Sinema?” Wegman asked.

“No, here’s the thing, there’s certain things that are so consequential you have to speak from your heart as well as your head,” Biden responded. “I was speaking out forcefully on what I think to be at stake. That’s what it is. And by the way, no one, no one forgets who was on the side of King versus Bull Connor. No one. The history books will note it. I was making the case.”

After that blowup, Wegmann made it clear he was not backing down or going away on the subject. He tweeted that numerous media outlets also reported on Biden’s remarks in Georgia, not just RealClearNews.

“The New York Times—the paper of record—previously wrote of the Bull Conner reference that Biden ‘left no doubt he has reached a breaking point …lashing out at the holdouts in the Senate and comparing them to some of the country’s most infamous racists,’” he charged.

“And this exchange: CNN: Aren’t there ‘legitimate reasons’ a senator might object to filibuster changes w/out saying Sinema or Manchin ‘are like Bull Connor or Jefferson Davis?’ Sen Durbin: ‘Perhaps the president went a little too far in his rhetoric..'” Wegman tweeted.

He proceeded to take White House press secretary Jen Psaki to the woodshed over her blatant gaslighting concerning Biden’s words during his press conference.

“The president told me yesterday that the 2022 midterms ‘easily could be illegitimate.’ He added also ‘I’m not going to say it’s going to be legit,’” Wegman asserted.

Tom Bevan, who is the co-founder of RealClearPolitics and Wegman’s boss, tweeted concerning Psaki’s attempt at damage control: “This should be flagged as misinformation. RCP’s own Philip Wegmann gave Biden a chance to clarify his initial refusal to say the midterms would be free & fair.” He also included a transcript of their exchange.

Radio host Buck Sexton also tore into President Biden for snapping at Wegmann.

“Joe Biden, during a press conference yesterday, scream[ed] at White House reporter Phil Wegmann, and he is essentially saying that ‘you better be clear, listen to what I said — and then I will say a bunch of things that don’t make sense,'” Sexton stated on “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.”

He proceeded to recite Biden’s exact quotes from his Atlanta speech.

“I ask every elected official in America. How do you want to be remembered? You want to be on the side of [Martin Luther] King or George Wallace. You want to be on the side of John Lewis or Bull Connor? You want to be on the side of Abraham Lincoln or Jefferson Davis?” Sexton said repeating Biden’s comments.

“That’s what [Biden] says about a voting rights bill that he can’t even get all the members of the Democrat Senate to go along with,” he remarked. “He created that absurd and really slanderous dichotomy. He’s the one that said it’s a choice, ‘and look, you can either be a great civil rights hero or be an evil racist: up to you, Republicans.’”

Sexton noted that in cases such as Wegmann’s, Biden gets defensive and yells.

“This is why he was 76th of 85 at Syracuse Law, class of ’68 — true story by the way. Not exactly a genius of logic and rhetoric, but President of the United States, somehow — we’re all seeing what those results are,” he concluded.
