Vice President Kamala Harris cemented her criticism of Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin when she declared she would not “absolve” any lawmakers standing in the way of passing so-called voting rights legislation.
At a Martin Luther King day volunteer event in Washington on Monday, the vice president was asked directly about Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Sinema (D-Ariz.) and their refusal to budge on the filibuster, dooming the chances of Democrats ramming through what they claim is legislation on voting rights.
“The United States Senate has the opportunity and, I daresay, the responsibility to pass these bills through Congress so the president can sign them. And the resistance to doing that will not deter us from our commitment to getting it done,” Harris told reporters.

Asked by one reporter specifically about Manchin and Sinema, Harris was quick with her response.
“As I’ve said before, there are a hundred members of the United States Senate, and I’m not going to absolve — nor should any of us — absolve any member of the United States Senate from taking on a responsibility to follow through on the oath that they all took to support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” she said.
Left-wing The Atlantic whined over the unwavering resistance from the Democrat senators, declaring that a “nationwide standard of voting rights now seems like a pipe dream.”
The vice president’s remarks about the legislation, and her specific jab at resisting senators, sparked many reactions on Twitter:
As if Sinema and Manchin need Kamala’s approval or “absolution.” 😏

So disappointing. I’m sure Sinema cares about absolution from the lowest polling politician in office whose own party is trying to replace her on the bottom of the ticket, which they’d do in a heartbeat if they didn’t have to also replace the top of the ticket.

How intimidated they must feel…

Manchin and Sinema have been doing what we have been doing. And that time is every day.

This would carry weight if it were about a bill concerning voting rights but this bill does not change anyone’s right to vote. It is simply a name the Democrats have chosen to push emotional buttons. They could have called it the “save baby kittens act” if they wanted to.

So irritating when democracy gets in the way of “democracy.”
They don’t need her absolution, or her 30% approval rating.
They voted the way they voted, which they are well within their right to do.
Move on.
