Woke identity politics has allegedly found its way into U.S. Air Force special tactics officer training, and ex-Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw wants an explanation.
U.S. Rep. Crenshaw (R-Tex.) tweeted a message to his one million followers and to the attention of the Secretary of Defense that “We cannot sacrifice training standards. Ever. Full stop. If this account is true, our military needs to address it now.”
Crenshaw was responding to a lengthy and “brutal” thread on the BKactual Twitter feed purportedly from a whistleblower who claims that the first female trainee was given special treatment on five different occasions to try to get her to qualify for the highly selective commando unit.
The lawmaker separately wrote on Instagram that “To be clear, there are lots of females that contribute enormously to Special Operations missions. But they get to that point by following strict standards which ensure they can be relied upon in combat. Subverting those standards will cost lives.”
STO training reportedly has nearly an 80 percent dropout rate, which obviously means that most male candidates don’t make it through either.

According to the unnamed combat controller, the Air Force literally watered down the requirements in Phase II of the special tactics officer training initially because in 2018 “she quit during a rigorous pool session…but was given the chance to finish. This was my first known instance of preferential treatment towards a woman within the ST community. It is against societal norms for the ST community to keep a quitter through the entirety of Phase II….”
“She quit during various points of her training, and all accounts were ‘brushed under the rug,'” because of politics, the whistleblower also asserted about subsequent tryouts.
The Air Force Captain was allegedly allowed to restart the training on several occasions, including after she “self-eliminated.” The whistleblower also contends that the officer filed an equal opportunity complaint “even though [she] had been known to tell other trainees that she quit of her own free-will and that she disliked the ST community as a whole.”
Despite all this, the officer is scheduled to rejoin the trainee unit again this month because of purported pressure from the brass.
“This is the purposeful destruction of an elite commando unit by the feeble, pathetic men at the top of the @usairforce in the name of an absurd gender equality crusade/making rank,” BKactual, who is a USAF special warfare veteran, concluded.
Air Force special tactics officer training is said to be as rigorous as that required to qualify for the Navy SEALs or other elite combat units in the U.S. military.
“The Air Force is also now calling for an investigation by the Inspector General over claims preferential treatment was given to the female captain who was hoping to become the first female elite special tactics airman,” the Daily Mail reported. “Very few women have attempted the Air Force special warfare pipeline since the positions were opened to them in 2015.”
In response to the controversy, Lt. General James Slife, the Air Force special operations commander, posted a message to Facebook that probably was less-than reassuring to those who are concerned about maintaining standards.
Slife insisted that training standards haven’t changed, but there’s a catch because standards have evolved.
“However, there is a difference between standards and norms. How we bring trainees through the training pipeline today is different than the way we brought them through the pipeline 15 years ago because our understanding of the best way to get trainees to meet standards and be ready to join the operational force has evolved. It will continue to do so…”
He also claimed that the anonymous writer got some facts wrong or left out the full context of the situation, plus “Singling out a fellow servicemember for public abuse is bullying and harassment, which are unacceptable deviations from both our standards, our norms and values as Airmen.”
With the latter remark that sounds a lot like it could be issued by a dean on a typical college campus, it appears that the Air Force considers any discussion of this topic off-limits.
Conservative influencer and U.S. Marine Jesse Kelly has warned that under the Biden administration, the U.S. could lose a major war if it continues to disproportionately focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion instead of military readiness.
Along these lines perhaps, the Navy has announced that it is extending boot camp by two weeks with a focus on issues including racism.
