‘Not going to eradicate this’: Fauci’s COVID confession flies in the face of Biden’s big pledge

Perhaps the only thing that NIH Director Dr. Anthony Fauci has said for the last two years that those capable of critical thought can agree with him on is that the COVID-19 virus will not be eradicated in the United States.

“So, if we’re going to look ahead at what happens when this peaks and it ultimately goes down — as I’ve said on previous pressers here from the White House: that we’re not going to eradicate this; we’ve only done that with smallpox,” Fauci said on Wednesday.

He added that the novel coronavirus can only be managed and that elimination of a virus “only happens with massive vaccination programs like we did with measles and with vaccines.”

This, of course, is in contravention of President Biden’s supereminent campaign promise to “shut down the virus.”

In December of 2021, Fox News’ White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked Press Secretary Jen Psaki about the president’s unrealized promise, to which she replied, “We’re working on it, Peter.”

Biden has had noticeable difficulty putting one thought in front of the other since his basement campaign for the U.S. presidency in 2020 began, and his vacillation on COVID-19 policies is no exception.

As BPR reported in August of 2020, Biden had no qualms about shutting down the country in order to control the virus.

“I will be prepared to do whatever it takes to save lives because we cannot get the country moving until we control the virus,” Biden told David Muir of ABC News at the time.

“That is the fundamental flaw of this administration’s thinking to begin with. In order to keep the country running and moving and the economy growing, and people employed, you have to fix the virus, you have to deal with the virus,” he said.

“So, if the scientists say shut it down?” Muir asked.

“I would shut it down. I would listen to the scientists,” he responded.

But recently, Biden confessed the truth while seated at the soundstage set in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building where he likes to be filmed for some reason, fake backdrop of the White House and all.

As BPR reported in December, during a virtual meeting with state governors and his COVID-19 response team on the soundstage, the president said in response to a question from Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, “Look, there is no federal solution. This gets solved state level. My message to the governor is simple: If you need something, say something and we’re going to have your back in any way we can.”

Hutchinson, for his part, made it clear he wants no federal involvement in his state’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As you look towards federal solutions that will help alleviate the challenge, make sure that we do not let federal solutions stand in the way of state solutions and the production of 500 million rapid tests that will be distributed by the federal government is great,” Hutchinson said. “But obviously, that dries up the supply chain for the solutions that we might offer as governor.”

While Fauci maintains that the COVID-19 virus cannot be eradicated (though he hasn’t gone so far as to say that Joe Biden is misguided in his pledge to do just that) he insists that precautions and vaccinations are still of paramount importance.

During a Jan. 5 press conference that included Dr. Rochelle Walensky of the CDC, Fauci said in reference to the comparatively mild Omicron variant, “Don’t take this as a signal that we can pull back from the recommendations that you just heard from Dr. [Rochelle] Walensky – about the need for vaccination, for boostering, for wearing masks and all the other CDC recommendations.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been over 62.5 million coronavirus cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, along with over 840,000 deaths.
