U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) mocked a producer for “The Rachel Maddow Show” who accidentally copied his office in an email expressing worry that the young conservative would want to appear on the show if they asked him for a comment on a story.

“We are kinda interested in this AP story (below) that just dropped about Rep. Madison Cawthorn. A group of voters in NC is challenging his candidacy based on his ties to the insurrection,” the producer wrote to an NBC colleague on Monday, according to an email that was obtained by Fox News Digital.

“1. Do you or any other NBC Hill folks plan to ask him for comment on this story? 2. If not, is that something you guys could do? We don’t have a relationship with his office and between you and me are a little worried that if we did inquire he might ask to come on and explain. I know that is HIGHLY doubtful, but don’t want to take that risk. Luke Ball (?) I guess is the spox quoted?” the email asked.

Cawthorn shared a link to the Fox News story via Twitter with the comment “Whoopsies ⁦@MSNBC!” He then retweeted multiple comments connected to the goof.

The senior “Maddow” producer was emailing a Capitol Hill NBC News colleague regarding an Associated Press piece reporting on a small North Carolina group of 11 activists who are disputing Cawthorn’s re-election candidacy because he addressed the pro-Trump Jan. 6 rally last year.

The NBC associate agreed to contact Cawthorn’s representative for Maddow’s show to limit their exposure to the hugely popular GOP firebrand.

The small leftist contingent is arguing that he has violated the 14th Amendment against members of Congress by engaging in an “insurrection” against the United States. The media is all over their claim but mostly fail to disclose the group’s extremely small size in an effort to falsely paint Cawthorn as an unpopular right-wing extremist who has run afoul of the Constitution.

The group ironically called Free Speech for People is behind the specious charge. Ron Fein, who is the group’s legal director, told the Associated Press that the effort highlighted “the importance of defending the bedrock constitutional principle that oath breakers who engage in insurrection cannot be trusted in future office is essential to maintain.”

Luke Ball, who is Cawthorn’s communications director, said the leftists were “comically misinterpreting and twisting the 14th Amendment for political gain.”

Maddow is MSNBC’s top-rated liberal host. She has been extremely caustic when it comes to covering Cawthorn and other “MAGA” Republicans who support former President Trump.

Once Cawthorn got wind of the faux pas, he mercilessly mocked MSNBC for it: “Fake news MSNBC doesn’t want to ‘take the risk’ that I’ll come on their show and trigger the left with my America First message and burst their woke dystopian bubble. The left doesn’t want debate from conservatives, they want silence. And now we have it in writing. Sad!”

Cawthorn said that he would definitely consider coming on Maddow’s show in the highly unlikely event that he was invited.

The 26-year-old Republican is the youngest member of Congress and will run again for office in North Carolina’s newly redrawn 13th District in the 2022 midterm elections. Democrats are obviously terrified he could be reelected and view him as some kind of existential threat to their leftist agenda.
