A suspected left-wing extremist armed with an explosive device was arrested near a rally Thursday in Florida that was being held on behalf of a jailed Jan. 6th rioter, though you aren’t likely to hear anything about this from the establishment press.

“During Thursday’s event, deputies noticed a man wearing all black, with a black face covering and a black backpack, running away from the gathering at the courthouse,” according to Tampa Bay station WTVT.

“Deputies caught up with him and detained him. After arresting him for prowling and loitering, they searched his backpack, where they found a black helmet and a list of items. They also found a pipe-style explosive device.”

(More on the black helmet later.)

According to Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, “the explosive device found at the courthouse was capable of exploding,” as reported by WTVT.

The suspect was later identified as Garrett James Smith, who incidentally turned 22 on Jan. 6th — and apparently decided to celebrate by crashing a right-wing rally.

A search of Smith’s car, which was reportedly found nearby, turned up some M-80s, a type of bootleg firecracker so powerful that a federal explosives license is required to purchase them.

Meanwhile, a search of his home turned up “four grenade-type explosives and another pipe-style explosive,” according to WTVT.

Dovetailing back to his backpack, the “list of items” was a “direct action checklist” that listed items under the categories “clothing,” “armor” and “gear.”

The list of “gear” included everything from a first aid kit to gas masks, “flammable rags,” “spray paint,” “black duct tape” and a “sling shot.”

During a press conference Friday, Sheriff Gualtieri revealed that “inside Smith’s backpack was a black helmet … with colors on it and logos that resemble logos that have been seen in protest by groups in Oregon and in other places of the country.”

He added that, according to Smith’s family, “he had been in Portland, Oregon, and returned several months ago.”

However, the sheriff stressed that “[w]e really have no idea as to what his political leanings are.”

The evidence does nevertheless strongly point to the suspect being a member of the radically left-wing terrorist group known as Antifa. And indeed, according to journalist Andy Ngo, a Portland native known for his extensive research on the terrorist group, the word “Antifa” was even included in Smith’s arrest affidavit.

Ngo noted this point while fact-checking several left-wing media outlets that he accused of trying to whitewash Smith’s suspected political affiliations.

Additional evidence pointing to Smith being a member of Antifa comes from Antifa itself, which has reportedly been posting tweets in his defense.

In one tweet reported by Ngo, the so-called Florida Youth Liberation Front claimed that the pipe bomb was just “a smoke bomb.”

As of Sunday morning, there appeared to be zero reports in the establishment press (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, The Washington Post, The New York Times) about Smith’s arrest, despite evidence pointing to him being a left-wing extremist.

Both congressional Democrats and the establishment press have a habit of fretting over alleged right-wing extremists, including dissenting parents, but ignoring, downplaying or outright excusing left-wing extremists, including Black Lives Matter and Antifa activists.

When left-wing extremists stormed Lafayette Square in 2020, forcing Secret Service officers to rush then-President Donald Trump, a Republican, to a bunker, Democrats and their media allies laughed at the “bunker boy” president.

When left-wing extremists rioted in Milwaukee, Kenosha, Ferguson and countless other cities, the press referred to the riots as “peaceful protests.”

In fact, the media have even written puff pieces about Antifa — despite their history of attacking journalists, destroying property and wreaking havoc.

“Antifa Violence Is Ethical? This Author Explains Why,” the headline of a 2017 NBC News piece reads.

Some call this sort of “reporting” Antifa propaganda.
