Shots fired outside of a Texas apartment struck the 4-year-old niece of George Floyd who was sleeping inside in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.
The young girl, identified as Arianna Delane, was sleeping in the family’s Houston apartment Saturday and was struck by a bullet to her torso just before 3 a.m., KTRK reported. The child is reportedly in stable condition following emergency surgery. Floyd’s sister LaTonya told Fox affiliate KRIV-TV that the child suffered some pierced ribs and a bullet wound to the stomach while KTRK reported Arianna had a punctured lung and liver as well as three broken ribs.

“My daughter jumped up and said, ‘Daddy, I’ve been hit’ and I was shocked until I seen the blood and I realized my 4-year-old daughter was really hit,” her father, Derrick Delane said. “She didn’t know what was going on. She was asleep.”
The young girl’s mother reportedly drove her to the hospital and her father alleged that police did not arrive until four hours after the shooting occurred. As of yet, Houston police have not released any information on a motive or a suspect, though the father believes they were targeted.

“Why would my house get shot up?” he asked. “My daughter don’t know. I can’t explain that to her. As the father, you’re supposed to protect the kids.”

The police chief reported Tuesday that an Internal Affairs investigation was launched to look into why there was an apparent delay in police response time.
“I am aware and have concerns regarding the delayed response time in this incident and have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said in a statement.
“I ask the city continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and assist in providing information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects responsible,” he added.
A photo of Arianna in the hospital recovering was shared in the news report by KRIV-TV.
