‘Back to 2020’: CNN locks down amid Omicron panic, shuttering offices and halting in-studio guest hits

The rapidly spreading state of hysteria that has taken root in America after the discovery of the Omicron variant has set off a wave of closures that threatens to be a sequel to 2020 when panic over COVID-19 shut down the nation, doing grave damage to the economy, and CNN has jumped onboard.

The self-proclaimed “most trusted name in news” has closed its offices to workers deemed to be nonessential, a move that CEO Jeff Zucker states is being made out of “an abundance of caution” according to an internal memo sent to employees.

CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter took to Twitter to share the news, “Like other major media companies, CNN is making changes due to the new Covid surge. CNN offices are closing “to all employees who do not have to be in the office to do their jobs,” per internal memo tonight. Back to 2020 protocols, essentially,” he tweeted.

In another tweet, Stelter added, “‘We are doing this out of an abundance of caution,’ CNN internal memo adds. ‘And it will also protect those who will be in the office by minimizing the number of people who are there.’ TV news 101: Networks always have to ensure that control rooms and shows can remain on the air.”

There will also be mandatory masking for those who are in office, a development that has likely put a serious damper on Christmas holiday cheer.

CNN is just the latest domino to fall after President Joe Biden spoke of “a winter of severe illness and death” which is hardly the sort of optimistic message that swing voters and moderates were likely expecting when they were hoodwinked by his campaign trail promises of being better equipped at handling the historic health crisis than former President Donald J. Trump.

Many on Twitter reacted to the news with mockery.

The Omicron panic also caused the NFL to reschedule three games this week due to a number of teams where players and coaches produced positive COVID tests, shows have been cancelled on Broadway and Ivy League schools have returned to remote learning among other high profile reactions.

With much of the public whipped up into a state of terror by media fearmongering, the stage has now been set for Biden’s big pre-Christmas Omicron speech, one in which he will wield his authoritarian powers in a manner previously unthinkable in a “democracy” like America, trampling on civil liberties and intensifying the persecution of the unvaccinated who will be scapegoated for any coming lockdowns.

While the holidays have now been ruined by Democrat politicians, Washington bureaucrats and media organizations, the upside for Biden is that nobody is talking about inflation, shortages and all of his other policy disasters.
