President Joe Biden ignited a wave of reactions for what many thought was a particularly awkward few moments in the U.S. Capitol.
The president’s entry to the Capitol, as he and other lawmakers gathered to honor the late Sen. Bob Dole who was lying in state, raised eyebrows because of what some saw as an odd exchange between himself and Vice President Kamala Harris.
It was actually the lack of an exchange that caught the attention of viewers, as video from the tribute ceremony showed the president and first lady Jill Biden arrive shortly behind Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff.
Social media users noted how there was no eye contact between the two leaders and how the president seemed to ask his wife to switch seats, positioning her closer to the vice president.

Many Twitter users agreed that the “cringe” causing moment was significant, given the recent reports of tensions between the president and vice president’s teams in the White House.
🚨 AWKWARD, SHADE WAR:
Joe Biden Refuses to acknowledge Kamala as he walks right past her in US Capitol. Then Joe asks Jill to SWITCH SEATS so he won’t be close to VP. Neither make eye contact as Joe looks AT THE CEILING and Kamala looks at the floor.CRINGE. See for yourself: pic.twitter.com/urCVJOq8Qa

Awk-ward.

I kind of thought it was a nothing burger at first – they’re kind of marching out there formally. But then they change seats, and as soon as they do, Kamala says something to her hubby. That…doesn’t look good.

Look closely, 1:32, Kamala whispers to Doug and at 1:34, Doug glances at Joe. 😂

To be fair he probably didn’t recognize nor remember who she is. Stranger danger

Other Twitter users dismissed the comments and contended that there was actually nothing out of the ordinary about the opening moments of Thursday’s ceremony.
I think you’re reading into this too much.

Meh…I don’t see anything explicitly untoward there. Chances are they exchanged pleasantries before they stepped out; it seems he maybe wanted to be closer to the podium when they swapped seats? Not saying there isn’t tension; just that this doesn’t convince me of anything.

They were literally together, all four of them, 1 minute before that when Doug and Kamala walked in. WHY would he need to acknowledge someone he was just standing with? You are absurd.
The seats were probably assigned ahead of time and Jill and Joe stood in each other’s spots.
