One of MSNBC host Joy Reid’s staff members responded to the conviction of race crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett on Thursday by bringing up the Jan. 6th riot.
Ja’han Jones, who’s listed by MSNBC as the show’s “blog writer,” wrote a post about “what conservatives should realize before they relish the Jussie Smollett guilty verdict.”
“(T)he strange, seemingly ever-changing details in the case have provided nearly three years’ worth of material for comedians and online commentators. Some of it has been quite funny, in fact,” the blog post reads.
So far, so good …

“Even more comical, in my view, was the predictable conservative outrage over Smollett’s allegations. Conservatives took to social media in 2019 to express outrage over the dropped charges. How dare someone make such a heinous claim about followers of their dear leader, they screeched. Violent, masked white guys who shout Trump slogans and use chemical agents to attack victims?” the post continued.
“Many on the right shamed those of us who knew such a claim was totally plausible — and then the Jan. 6 insurrection happened,” it then concluded.
It’s not clear what a politically motivated riot has to do with the claim that two Trump supporters assaulted Smollett in Chicago and claimed “this is MAGA country.”
Interesting how some people try to connect situations to unrelated matters. Jussie Smollett committed crimes and was convicted by a jury of his peers. This is unrelated to the Capitol riot. Those connected to the Capitol riot are being tried and convicted of their own crimes.

As of Friday morning, the blog post had received only 55 likes but nearly 400 comments and growing on Twitter. You know what means.
Critics were excoriating MSNBC, noting that, one, “everyone” should relish Smollett’s conviction because hate crime hoaxes are a disservice to both those who are smeared (Trump supporters, in this case), as well as real hate crime victims.
They were also pointing out that MSNBC’s hosts had been among the legions of leftists who’d initially rushed to accept Smollett’s narrative hook, line and sinker:
I’m not a conservative and I relish his conviction

Why is this political at all? Smollett made it so that victims of hate crimes are going to be questioned going forward. We should all want the book thrown at him for trivializing something that people really through.
— Caren Lamb (@onelove329) December 10, 2021
Smollett and the media (you) exploited racial injustice for their own gain. Everyone and anyone should relish this verdict left or right.

This guy made it harder for true claims. When will MSNBC stop carrying water and what-abouting. We all know the answer, because we all know they sell outrage, and that’s it.

It was an obvious lie that anyone with half a clue could spot.
The people who backed Jussie did so for political reasons.
Just apologise for repeating his lies and let it go.

Others were mocking Jones for apparently believing that Smollett’s extremely dubious narrative “was totally possible.”
Look (*Language warning):
“such a claim was totally plausible.”
They actually think this way.
You can’t make this up.
— MarkHyman (@MarkHyman) December 10, 2021
lol. It was never plausible. Jfc.
— Jay (@JayDeeDeeDeee) December 10, 2021
Plausible? That a couple of white guys were roaming the streets at that time in a black and gay neighborhood, with a noose, bleach and MAGA hats waiting to assault someone, who just happened to be a celebrity? It was never plausible.

He lied his fucking ass off & got burned for it hell it wasn’t even a plausible lie it was the most convoluted bullshit I’ve ever heard. He created a fake hate crime to further his own career like a selfish prick with no thought for the consequences

In fairness to Jones, he works in an anti-reality environment where lies and conspiracy theories seem to frequently be presented as truth.
More specifically, he works for a woman, Reid, who herself is the lover of implausible claims — such as the claim that the homophobic posts that were uncovered on her blog back in 2017 were placed there by hackers.
The claim was so implausible that even The Daily Beast, a left-wing “ally,” felt compelled to fact-check her.
“MSNBC host Joy Reid claims that recently unearthed homophobic articles attributed to her are fakes. And she says a cybersecurity consultant has proof that her old blog has been hacked. But that consultant, Jonathan Nichols, had trouble producing the promised evidence. And what he did produce failed to withstand scrutiny,” a report from April 2018 reads.
“It’s possible that in the end Reid will discover her adversary isn’t a determined hacker, but a far more dogged foe: The Joy-Ann Reid of years past, writing in a voice she can no longer recognize as her own,” it continued.
Not til that summer did Reid finally fess up to having written the posts. Maybe one day, Smollett will follow suit …
