Hannah Gittings, the girlfriend of Anthony Huber who attacked Kyle Rittenhouse with a skateboard and was subsequently killed last year, claimed on Thursday that she has “a lot of sympathy” for the teen but hopes “some semblance of justice could be served.”
She believes that Rittenhouse was swept up in the events of that night and was attempting to be the “king of the world” during the riots in Kenosha. Gittings, 25, also doesn’t believe that Rittenhouse was there just to protect businesses on the night her boyfriend tried to beat him with a skateboard and was shot and killed for it.
“If these people had just done what they said they were going to be doing, standing outside of the property making sure nobody was ruining these buildings and businesses whatever, that’s cool, but you weren’t,” Gittings said, accusing Rittenhouse in an interview with the New York Post.
“This kid was walking around like hot sh*t, looking for a reason to say, ‘Oh I gotta do something about this,’” she asserted, positing that Rittenhouse was part of a band of vigilantes patrolling the city during the riots.
“I do have a lot of sympathy for this kid because he is just a kid to me so it was just like a really dumb**s kid who unfortunately became the figurehead for this,” Gittings stated.
“I don’t think anybody there that night was not traumatized. I felt for him and his mother. He’s a kid and, as a mother myself, it’s difficult to watch your child go through things like that. I wish they could have the same empathy for us and realize that all of us have been crying probably a lot worse than that,” she commented.
She is also blaming the city of Kenosha for Huber’s death. ”Kenosha also needs to be held responsible for allowing this militia to show up and do exactly what they came here to do,” she bitterly remarked.
“You are not going to tell me that these motherf***ers did not know that this militia was here. You’re not gonna tell me that,” she exclaimed.
“They gotta put some heat on this kid because if they let him completely off the hook, then they have to totally take responsibility for allowing what happened to happen,” Gittings added.
On the night that Rittenhouse was attacked and forced to defend himself, Gittings and Huber went to attend the protests because Huber was reportedly a friend of Jacob Blake who was shot by police during an incident and paralyzed from the waist down. That shooting sparked the riots.
For context, according to a criminal complaint, Blake was a violent criminal who allegedly entered the house of a woman he knew and sexually assaulted her. He then took her debit card and car keys before fleeing the scene in her vehicle. He is charged in that pending case with felony third-degree sexual assault, misdemeanor trespassing, and disorderly conduct.
Gittings claimed that Huber was there to film and document civil unrest. He saw Rittenhouse with a gun and allegedly pushed her out of the way to stop what he thought was an active shooter. This followed Rittenhouse shooting and killing another attacker, Joseph Rosenbaum.
Huber then started bashing Rittenhouse in the head with his skateboard and in self-defense, the teen shot and killed his attacker.
“He risked and lost his own life trying to stop a shooter from hurting anybody else,” Gittings proclaimed.
His girlfriend commented that the events during the fatal encounter highlighted the “difference in character” between Huber and Rittenhouse.
“One of them goes out, taking advantage of a vulnerable situation so that he can live out his fantasy of being king of the world, and one of them out there doing absolutely nothing, nothing f***ing wrong and being presented with yes, an active shooter situation and leaping into action without a second thought of his own safety,” Gittings claimed.
Rittenhouse has detailed events that occurred that night and is claiming self-defense. Prosecutors are arguing that he instigated violence during the riots which was demonstrably not the case. In fact, Rittenhouse reportedly did all he could to avoid violence but it found him anyway.
Gittings took offense to defense attorneys branding Huber as a “rioter” and “looter” in their closing arguments.
“There’s no proof of that anywhere, and I was with him that entire night. We were not doing anything like that,” she claimed.

“He wasn’t doing anything wrong that night at all. We were peacefully protesting,” she declared.
She also stated that it’s been “difficult” to watch Rittenhouse on trial during the past two weeks.
“The outcome of this trial, it could go literally anyway in the world, good or bad for us and it still would not change any of this for us,” Gittings said. She has been in the courtroom every day awaiting a verdict.
“I’m hopeful that some semblance of justice could be served, but it seems like the defense is really pulling for this mistrial now,” she told WISN.
“I want people to know Anthony was a real-life human being, he was an amazing human being,” Gittings concluded.
