Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger asked why Kyle Rittenhouse with an AR-15 would consider a man with a handgun who was pointing it at his face more of a threat.
“Can you help me understand Mr. Rittenhouse why Gaige Grosskreutz with a pistol in his hand is a threat to kill you, but you with an AR-15 pointed at him is not a threat to kill him at this moment? Can you help me understand that?” Binger asked Rittenhouse during testimony.
“I’ve been attacked by several people, and he decided to come and point a gun at my head,” Rittenhouse replied.
“Well, first, he hasn’t done that yet, has he?” the prosecutor asked.
“No,” the defendant responded.
“So again, I ask you… in this moment you told us Gaige Grosskreutz is a threat to you right now,” Binger reiterated.
“Yes,” Rittenhouse said.
“He’s got a pistol not aimed at you. You’ve got an AR-15 aimed at him. Why is he more of a threat to you than you are to him?” the prosecutor outrageously asked.

How is this real?

Binger: All he had was a handgun, why would you think he is a threat? You have an AR-15. Can you help me understand that?
Kyle: He was advancing at me with a gun in his hand

“Because he was moving at me with a gun in his hand,” Rittenhouse told him.
“This is right after you’ve killed Anthony Huber, correct?” Binger noted.
“Yes,” Rittenhouse stated.
“Right after you fired two shots at almost point-blank range at the man running towards the camera right now and missing him, correct?” the prosecutor continued.
“Yes,” Rittenhouse replied.
“And you’re telling us Gaige Grosskreutz is the real threat at this moment?” Binger stated.
While conservatives were left shaking their heads in disbelief at the line of questioning, the media began spinning it, trying to vilify Rittenhouse and guns in general.
The DC bureau chief at The Intercept, Ryan Grim, tweeted, “What people could do with anger about the Rittenhouse trial is advocate for a law that says that if you bring a weapon to a public place where you know violence is basically guaranteed, you lose any self defense grounds.”

The jaw-dropping take on self-defense was not lost on those paying attention.
"Violence is basically guaranteed…"
At mostly peaceful BLM protests?

Attention: We are planning violence here, so you must leave your weapons at home while we burn and loot, or face the legal consequences!
— Rex Ratio (@vermontaigne) November 11, 2021
“public place where you know violence is basically guaranteed” So, what exactly are you saying about his attackers and the crowd?
— TheRealMirCat (@TRMirCat) November 11, 2021
especially when scenarios that *everyone* knew were violent and out of control were called ‘mostly peaceful protests’ by members of the media

Yes, by all means let’s pass a law whereby you’re rightfully entitled to defend yourself via the best means feasible, EXCEPT in a dangerous situation where you might be harmed. pic.twitter.com/JDcNk8Y449

If the place has violence guaranteed, there is MORE reason to bring a weapon, not less.

Binger’s line of questioning got even more bizarre during the trial.
He asked Rittenhouse if he chose his AR-15 because it “resembled the type of weapons used in first-person shooter video games,” like “Call of Duty.”
“You thought [the AR-15 rifle] resembled the types of weapons that are used in first-person shooter video games, correct?” Binger asked.
“I don’t really play first-person shooter video games. I have, but I believe there’s a variety of guns, including shotguns, pistols… there’s guns in video games that resemble all guns,” Rittenhouse pointed out.

“Isn’t it true, when you would hang out with Dominic Black, you would play Call of Duty and other first-person shooter video games?” Binger queried.
“Sometimes,” Rittenhouse responded.
“And those are games in which you use weapons like AR-15s to pretty much try to shoot everyone who comes at you, correct?” Binger asked.
“It’s a video game where two players are playing together, I don’t really understand the meaning of your question, to be honest,” Rittenhouse remarked.
“Isn’t one of the things people do in these video games try and kill everyone else with your guns?” Binger commented.
Binger’s handling of the case has culminated in the defense requesting a mistrial with prejudice on Wednesday. That determination has not been made yet.
People watching the testimony simply could not believe what they were hearing from the prosecution:
Wait. That was an actual question?

Is this an actual quote?
— Raist (@RaistliniltsiaR) November 10, 2021
Someone needs to tell the Prosecutor in the #Rittenhouse trial that a handgun can be every bit as deadly as an AR15 and depending on the gun/caliber maybe more so.
— Alisande (Ali) (@Alisand3) November 10, 2021
From what I saw today of the Rittenhouse trial the AR15 is really on the stand.
If he used a handgun or different rifle I'm not sure how much the media would care.
Why else does the prosecutor say AR15 in every sentence??
Oh no the AR15 is so bad and evil.. pic.twitter.com/Gnm9YiXiWL— Marvin Dorfler (@Jim56442955) November 10, 2021
This prosecutor is a clown. He says because Rittenhouse has an AR15 & the other guy only has a handgun, he is not a threat to Rittenhouse. WTF is this-The View? I thought he was a professional
— Big Kenny (@KennyPaul68) November 10, 2021
Is this satire? Did he actually ask that?
— qpDANIELASKEWqp (@qpDAWGSqp) November 10, 2021
Single handedly the worst cross-examination that i’ve ever seen in my life.
— Erik Janowicz (@ErikJano82) November 10, 2021
You’re spoofing right…there is no way he really tried this argument right? Like a handgun is just as lethal as an AR-15, particularly at close range, & may be the preferred weapon because of freedom of movement/maneuverability in close quarters. “All he had was a handgun” 🤦♂️
