Stephanie Ruhle snipes at NYPD officers putting careers on the line, calls it ‘a show for attention’

Thousands of Americans are having their livelihoods taken from them, their very means to keep a roof over their heads and put food on the table for their children, for not getting vaccinated against COVID-19, many of them having natural immunity from already contracting the virus that studies say is even more effective.

And while those pushing mandates on the nation claim it’s not a political issue, the reality is that the left is firmly in the camp of forced vaccinations, while many on the right believe it’s a personal choice on whether to inject pharmaceuticals into their body, in this case, a vaccine developed in record time with little understanding of its long-term effects. A vaccine that will protect recipients from serious side effects of the virus, according to studies, but does not guarantee that they will not get COVID-19 or spread it, should they test positive.

In Democrat-run New York City, a vaccine mandate went into effect Monday and Fox News cited data from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office to report that 22,000 municipal workers remain unvaccinated, while another nine thousand or so have been placed on unpaid leave for refusing the vaccine.

“Nine thousand people [were] placed on leave without pay today,” Mitch Schwartz, a spokesperson for the mayor, told the network. “The rest are in various stages of having their accommodation requests reviewed. They can be at work.”

Firehouses are being shuttered in the Big Apple over manpower shortages related to the vaccine, and there are thousands of police officers unvaccinated. Talk radio host Michael Berry posted a tweet of an image purported to be “the line at an NYPD station of officers lined up to go out sick tomorrow as that’s the deadline for the vaccination,” which prompted MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle to snipe: “This is NOT how you call out stick (sic). This is how you put on a show for attention.”

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said only a few a dozen NYPD members were placed on unpaid leave Monday after refusing to get the vaccine, but that thousands of unvaccinated employees are still on the job with pending exemption requests, according to the New York Post.

“The NYPD’s current vaccination rate was 85 percent Monday morning, which reflects a nearly 15-point jump from the start of last week, leaving just under 8,000 uniformed and civilian members without the jab,” the paper reported. “Police sources told The Post roughly 6,500 of those employees put in requests to be exempt from the COVID vaccine on the urging of police unions as they attempt to fight the mandate in court. They are allowed to work as those applications are reviewed.”

The Police Benevolent Association in New York also filed a lawsuit against the mandate last month, according to Fox News, insisting that officers “have rights to medical autonomy and religious observance that would be violated by forcing them to submit to a vaccination.”

The same day the NYC mandate went into effect, a Cook County judge gave the Fraternal Order of Police in Chicago a partial victory in granting a temporary restraining order to block a vaccine mandate for union members. The ruling left in place a vaccine status reporting mandate and police still face being stripped of their police powers and being put on no-pay status if they refuse to enter their vaccinations status into the city’s portal, ABC7 Chicago reported.

What may be even more troubling than the authoritarian approach taken by so many government officials — see Democrats — is the response from Americans who allow their fear and self-preservation to trample on what was once an American trademark: freedom.

Here’s a sampling of some of the reactions to Rhule’s tweet:
