Throwing caution — and due process — to the wind, Democrats on Capitol Hill are responding to a Rolling Stone hit piece, published on Sunday claiming that a number of Jan. 6 organizers met with Republican members of Congress as well as White House staffers, to say any member of Congress implicated in the Jan. 6 riots should be expelled.
In a piece that conflates the “Stop the Steal” rally with the storming of the Capitol afterward, no real evidence was produced linking any lawmakers to the violence. The lawmakers’ names are a who’s who list of conservatives regularly targeted by the left: Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
Rolling Stone, a left-wing magazine that has seen a number of “breaking stories” debunked over the years, cited sources to also claim that Gosar offered the possibility of a “blanket pardon” to the sources to show “how much we appreciate all the hard work you’ve been doing.”
The sources identified Trump campaign advisor Katrina Pierson, who spoke at the rally, as a direct line between them and the White House, calling Pierson “our go-to-girl.” Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows was also implicated by the “sources.”
Brooks told CNN Capitol Hill reporter Monday evening that he had “no involvement” in planning the Jan 6 rally, while noting that the rally itself was a lawful event.
“I don’t know if my staff did.. but if they did I’d be proud of them for helping to put together a rally lawful under the First Amendment at the ellipse to protest voter fraud and election theft,” he reportedly said.
Rep. Mo Brooks told me he had “no involvement” in planning the Jan 6 rally but said:

To the surprise of few, self-avowed socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., led the charge to purge Republican lawmakers, as seen in a fanciful tweet about a “terror attack” that she claimed left “almost 10 dead.” The only death that occurred on Jan. 6 directly linked to the breach was that of avid Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed 14-year Air Force veteran shot and killed by a Capitol Police officer who didn’t appear to give any warning immediately before opening fire.
“Any member of Congress who helped plot a terrorist attack on our nation’s capitol must be expelled,” the ex-bartender proclaimed.

Fellow squad member Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., a trained healer and Black Lives Matter activist, saw all she needed to see from Rolling Stone to say it’s “inexcusable to wait any longer.”

“Every member of Congress takes an oath to defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Any member who helped plan or was complicit in the Jan. 6 insurrection violated that oath, and should be immediately removed from office,” tweeted Rep. Norma Torres, D-Calif.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., who survived the “spy that shagged me” controversy involving a Chinese honeytrap, also tweeted: “Any Member of Congress who plotted with Jan. 6 terrorists must be removed from Congress.”
Another attention-seeking lawmaker, Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., tweeted: “No one should be above the law, including Members of Congress and former White House Staff. And if pardons were indeed discussed in advance, why would that be? Because folks knew crimes were about to be committed.”
Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., went so far as to call his colleagues across the aisle “enemies.”

Yet, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., outdid them all with her offering: “On January 6th, I didn’t know if I would make it out alive. Anyone and everyone involved in the planning and execution of the deadliest attack on our Capitol since the War of 1812 must be held fully accountable — full stop.”
It’s clear that Democrats intend to make political hay out of January 6 as long as they can, potentially dragging it out until the midterm elections. It also serves as a convenient distraction to the damaging effects of President Joe Biden’s policies.
Condoleezza Rice, the highly respected former George W. Bush administration official, put a major dent in the Democrats’ obsession with Jan. 6th during an appearance on “The View.”
Making it clear that she believes the riot was “wrong,” Rice said “it’s time to move on in a lot of ways. I’m one who believes that the American people are now concerned about their what we call kitchen table issues — the price of gasoline, inflation, what’s happening to their kids in school.”
She also reminded the notoriously negative hosts of “The View” that despite the storming of the Capitol, democracy prevailed.
“I will say that that night when they filed back into the Capitol after it was secured and they certified that election, I had new faith in our institutions and the people who were protecting them. So we came through that as a country that ultimately upheld the law,” Rice said.
