Hooters is backing away from a new uniform policy for female employees that features very revealing shorts — shorts that appear to be little more than a thong.
The restaurant famous for its Hooters Girls is not exactly blushing over the new uniforms some employees have described as being like “underwear,” it’s just making them optional, which means the risqué shorts are still around. At least, for now.
In response to critical feedback from employees, a Hooters of America spokesperson said female employees can now choose between the original skimpy shorts and the even skimpier new shorts, according to Business Insider.
“As we continue to listen and update the image of the Hooters Girls, we are clarifying that they have the option to choose from traditional uniforms or the new ones,” the spokesperson wrote in an email to the website. “They can determine which style of shorts best fits their body style and personal image.”
A previous policy notice sent out to employees was obtained by the New York Post and read: “Starting Oct. 4, all Hooters girls should wear the new shorts when working once they arrive to stores, The old shorts should not be worn.”

In a TikTok video that made the rounds, Kirsten Songer suggested that she was a Hooters bartender and modeled the new black bikini-cut shorts on her account over a pair of grey leggings, along with the new orange “shorts” for waitresses. She explained that they are all required to wear skin-tone tights under the shorts before trying them on.
“I can’t even hide the front of my leggings and oh look, a wedgie,” Songer said, after donning the black shorts and turning around to show her backside.
“There is no longer anything covered by the shorts and this is what the problem with the new shorts is,” she explained. “This is why all the Hooters girls are upset. This is not what I agreed to wear a year ago when I was hired.”
@theflathootersgirlReply to @kat.abrramo so here’s what they look like on! I had to use a tape measure for my sizing and then I still couldn’t get them off after this video 🙂 #uniform #hooters #shorts #hooterstiktok #college #waitress #restaurant #hootersgirledition #OneSliceChallenge♬ A moist healing song – Nez Tunes
Another TikTok video showcasing a young woman in the new shorts included the caption: “Soooo Hooters got new panties. I mean shorts.”

Another social media user wrote: “Love my job but don’t love wearing undies to work.”
On the other hand, another TikTok user declared: “I’ve been making way more money with the new shorts,”
Hooters of America said in its statement that it “appreciates the feedback, both positive and negative, regarding a more accommodating and inclusive image policy on tattoos, jewelry, nails, hairstyles as well as new uniform options — to include new top styles, shorts, and the addition of socks.”
The online reaction to the story ran the gamut, with the only certainty here being that social justice warriors seem to have little interest in the plight of your average Hooters Girl — the tone of the responses was not hateful enough to signal their presence.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses from Twitter:
Right we certainly don’t go for the food. One of last places left that highlight the beautiful women

The issue isn’t that they’re skimpy, it’s that they look like something very uncomfortable to work in. These girls have to put in a full shift waitressing……

As a woman I don’t care what they wear. You don’t go to hooters for the food. Even I know that.

If you cannot stand wardrobe maybe it’s not your place.
