LA Sheriff calls racist attack on Larry Elder a hate crime motivated by ‘woke privilege’

Outrage continues to mount in the aftermath of a racially motivated attack on California gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder who was accosted by a woman wearing a gorilla mask this week as tensions boil over in the waning days before next Tuesday’s recall election.

Elder, who has a serious shot at becoming the state’s first black governor if voters pull the plug on embattled Democrat Gavin Newsom, was campaigning in Venice when the masked woman emerged, showering him with verbal abuse and hurling an egg in an incident that was captured on video.

Fortunately, he wasn’t harmed and Elder’s security detail was able to whisk him away from the angry mob and get him to safety as the assailant physically attacked one of his protectors, punching him in the head.

Considering the obvious racist message that was conveyed by the attacker’s wearing of the gorilla mask, it would seem to qualify as a hate crime and that is exactly the opinion of the top lawman in Los Angeles County who took to Twitter to ask the obvious.

In a Twitter post, Sheriff Alex Villaneuva asked the question “How is this not a hate crime?”

He then answered his own question, “Because “woke privilege” means a white woman can wear a gorilla mask and attack a black man without fear of being called a racist.” He also wondered why there has been no reaction from politicians, a clear reference to Governor Newsom whom he has clashed with.

“Just imagine the outrage if the roles had been reversed. We would never hear the end of it,” Villanueva said to the Washington Examiner. “People need to be held accountable on both sides of the aisle. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Why didn’t Gavin Newsom call out this reprehensible behavior? I distinctly remember John McCain defending Obama when someone said something. God bless him as a true patriot.”

He was likely referring to the 2008 incident when the deceased former senator defended his opponent as a “decent person” after a vociferous attendee at a rally used an epithet to describe the future two-term president. Such decency is no longer possible in the current era of political acrimony, especially when it comes to Democrats.

Villanueva also said that he plans to investigate the assault on Elder with its racial intent. “It conveniently hides her identity, but there was a message there. She could’ve picked a Groucho Marx mask,” he said. “I think the message was clear.”

Like other Republicans, Elder has been endangered by an irresponsible media that constantly fans the flames of racial animosity with one Los Angeles Times columnist smearing him as the “black face of white supremacy.”

Regardless of such smears and the hatred that’s been directed at him, Elder remains undaunted as he sets his sights on deposing Newsom and taking on the radical Democrats who have turned the Golden State into a dystopian hellscape with staggering income inequality, parts of cities that resemble third world slums and a corrupt elitist overclass that seeks to impose its “values” on the rest of the nation.

Judging by the attacks on Elder, the Democrats are very worried.
