Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney’s status as an alleged “spy” for the Democrat Party just earned her a promotion from her newfound political masters and is likely to soon earn her a demotion from the Republican Party.

Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, the chair of the House Jan. 6th Committee, announced Thursday that henceforth Cheney will serve as his vice-chair.

“Representative Cheney has demonstrated again and again her commitment to getting answers about January 6th, ensuring accountability, and doing whatever it takes to protect democracy for the American people,” Thompson said in a statement.

“Her leadership and insights have shaped the early work of the Select Committee and this appointment underscores the bipartisan nature of this effort,” he added.

But there’s little that’s bipartisan about the committee. While it does contain two ostensible Republicans — Cheney and Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger — both are considered by conservatives to be of ill repute because of their habitual tendency to align with Democrat Party interests.

In fact, the Wyoming congresswoman’s promotion comes amid a growing effort by the House Freedom Caucus to demote both her and Kinzinger’s rank in the Republican Party.

CNN reported Wednesday that it’d obtained a draft copy of a letter being written to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy by House Freedom Caucus chair Andy Biggs.

The letter reportedly proposes a new rule that any member of the committee who accepts a committee assignment from Democrats without approval of the party’s leadership “shall immediately cease to be a member of the conference.”

“This proposal is not because of a policy or political difference, but because some members have chosen to work with the Democrats to investigate and potentially remove Republican Members from the House,” Biggs wrote, according to CNN.

“Republican Conference meetings are an opportunity for elected House Republicans to come together and strategize the most effective path to push back on the radical policies of Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi and the Democrats,” Biggs added.

“Many of the coming discussions will likely revolve around our defense against the Democrats’ perpetuation of the false narrative that January 6th was an insurrection and how to protect our own from their legally questionable investigative methods.”

The problem, he continued, is that because Cheney and Kinzinger have displayed such fealty to the Democrat Party, it’s conceivable — if not very probable — that they’ll leak details of the caucus’s inner workings to their newfound Democrat friends on the Jan. 6th Committee.

Driving the point home, Biggs concluded his letter by writing, “Congresswoman Cheney and Congressman Kinzinger are two spies for the Democrats that we currently invite to the meetings, despite our inability to trust them.”

Correction: Cheney is now a vice-chair “spy.”

While not busy acting as vice-chair, she can be found on Twitter retweeting Democrat talking points, including the Orwellian one that says it’s perfectly fine for the committee to force private companies to fork over the confidential records of their users.

Despite the FBI having concluded that minimal evidence exists to suggest (let alone prove) that the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol was a part of some grand plot, Democrats are hellbent on proving otherwise.

How? By forcing telecommunication companies to provide them with the private records of anyone linked to the riot in any way. The hope is to find something — anything — in those records to nail their political foes with.

Cheney apparently supports this. She also appears to enjoy grossly exaggerating the impact of the Jan. 6th riot.

“The videos show the unbelievable violence and the inexcusable and intolerable cruelty that you all faced, and people need to know the truth,” she said during the commission’s first hearing in July as she addressed the U.S. Capitol Police officers who’d volunteered to speak.

Listen:

Her words would have carried more weight had she not purposefully chosen to ignore the months of violent, deadly Black Lives Matter riots that erupted across the nation throughout much of 2020.

“What happened on Jan. 6 is unprecedented in our history, and I think that it’s very important that the commission be able to focus on that,” she said back in April in defiance of demands from GOP leadership that the riots be included in the commission’s work.

In other words, her only focus was and still remains on former President Donald Trump, whom everybody knows she singularly blames for the Jan. 6th.

Looking at her behavior, it’s not hard to see why congressional Republicans want her out and why the conservative base is eager to vote her out of office.
