The left came unglued when GOP Sen. Ben Sasse appeared on “Morning Joe” to criticize Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal and to decry his offensive victory dance while Americans and Afghan allies remain trapped behind enemy lines.
On Thursday, Sasse detailed just how mind-blowingly bad Biden’s Afghanistan debacle really is, “There is no excuse for leaving Americans behind. The president seems to be content with a plan that is going to end up in some sort of a hostage situation. It’s completely indefensible.”
“We need to finish the job. Obviously, I’m against the withdrawal decision, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now; we’re talking about the fact that this evacuation has been so ham-handedly planned and the administration continues to just go out and try to take these weird victory laps every 36 hours like things are working well. Things are not working well,” he contended.
Sarah Reese Jones, the co-founder of the liberal news site Politicus USA, found Sasse’s remarks confusing and offensive, “Sen. Ben Sasse spreads some major misinformation on #MorningJoe Sasse talked about leaving no American behind, but according to the White House 4,500 of the 6,000 Americans in the country are already out, and they talkin to another 500.”

Sasse wants to extend past Biden’s Aug. 31 deadline “until every American is out.” That is apparently a problem for the left.
Jones seems to have an issue with any information that makes President Biden look bad as Sasse did not appear to spread any misinformation and merely remarked that the evacuation was not going well. In fact, many would posit that it is the White House that is actively spreading misinformation.
MSNBC viewers immediately started to attack Sasse for not towing the White House line on the number of evacuees already gotten out of Afghanistan versus those still in-country. Many conservatives are contesting what the Biden administration is claiming.
Regardless of that, Sasse’s point was that not one American or Afghan ally should be left behind and that caused a major meltdown among MSNBC’s liberal viewership. Many of them took the stance that it was all former President Trump’s fault in the first place which is a favorite talking point among Democrats.
Viewers of the left-leaning show focused on Sasse’s perceived silence on major political issues such as the Capitol riot and voting rights.
Sasse has been very vocal in his criticism of the evacuations and President Biden’s catastrophic foreign policy.
He also vented to NPR on Wednesday, “The Taliban doesn’t get to run a countdown clock on American lives. So the August 31 deadline was always arbitrary. And now the Taliban is insisting on it, and President Biden is deciding that they control whether or not Americans live or whether or not Americans are taken hostage. It’s completely unacceptable.”
“We’ve been in great danger for weeks and weeks because the administration has been negotiating from a position of weakness. So the danger you reference is already there. The danger isn’t because of the commitment to stay to get American lives out. The danger is there because we started from such a position of weakness,” he added.
“There are many, many, many missteps that the administration has made in the last months. I mean, let’s begin with Bagram. It was absolutely indefensible militarily to abandon that base that we had that was so strategically important, both in-country and beyond,” Sasse noted.
But it is also true that the administration doesn’t have clarity about the number of Americans that are there. And we know that there are many Americans who are scared to try to get to the airport. We know that the president has made false statement after false statement about whether or not Americans and our allies were encountering any difficulty at these Talibani checkpoints where we knew there were beatings happening at the checkpoints,” he continued.
“We know that the Taliban is trying to take imagery of our allies who pass through there so that they can execute retribution against them when the U.S. has gone. And obviously, some of that has already begun. You see teenage girls being taken as soldier wives involuntarily,” Sasse said.
“The administration has the obligation to make sure that every American is out and that they don’t leave us with a hostage situation at the hands of a bloodthirsty Taliban with whom we should’ve never been negotiating,” he concluded.
Sasse was flamed for his assessment of the evacuation efforts by the left: (** Language warning)
Having Ben Sasse on Morning Joe to regurgitate debunked lies and spew bullshit is not how I wanted to start my morning.

Hey Joe/Willie – are you going to ask where Ben Sasse was when Trump and Pompeo were finalizing a deal to leave Afghanistan by May 1?
By my calendar May 1 is earlier than September 1.
But what do I know?#morningjoe

Ben Sasse is the official Monday Morning Quarterback of the US Senate.
Please do not give him any air time ever! https://t.co/vni2d1z2Yu

@BenSasse TFG set these wheels in motion and you did nothing but give aid and comfort to him throughout his anti-Constitutional blitzkrieg, so please take a seat. You failed to lead when it counted.

Sasse is interviewing to be the next GOP Presidential candidate. Shameless attention grab via the press. To bad, thought he was a thoughtful man. Guess I was wrong.

After a four year hiatus, it seems @BenSasse does have a spine.

The nerve of these people. The absolute shameless nerve of these people.

Ah @BenSasse, we lost the war. We can blame that on 20 years of bad (nation building) policy and a Surrender Treaty that effectively handed over the country to the Taliban (and release 5k Taliban prisoners).

Ben Sasse needs to take a seat & STFU. Where has he been for years?? I'm over all the "foreign policy experts" who sat back for 20 years and DID NOTHING.
