CNN anchor Brianna Keilar revealed Taliban letters Monday on “New Day” that issued a death sentence for the brother of an Afghan translator who helped U.S. forces, informing him, “Your death is imminent.”
“You have been accused of helping the Americans,” the Taliban allegedly wrote in the first of three letters to the translator and then added, “You are also accused of providing security to your brother, who has been an interpreter.”
The first letter orders the man to appear for a hearing, according to CNN. The second is a notice of his failure to appear for the mandated hearing. Both are handwritten.
The third letter was typed and stated that since he rejected previous warnings to stop “your servitude to the invading crusaders” and ignored a subpoena to appear for a hearing, he was “guilty in absentia” and would be sentenced to death. “These court decisions are final and you will not have the right to object,” they informed the man. “You chose this path for yourself and your death is eminent [sic], God willing.”

The letters were delivered by the Taliban to the interpreter’s brother within the last three months according to a former service member who worked with the interpreter. It is unknown if the translator or his brother are still in Afghanistan.
CNN is not identifying anyone involved out of safety concerns. The letters were written in Pashto and then were translated into English for CNN. They reportedly have seals that match those of archival Taliban letters.
Taliban Letters by New York Post
The letters stand in stark contrast to previous claims by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid who claimed at a press conference last week that those who assisted the United States would not be harmed.
“Nobody will be harmed in Afghanistan,” Mujahid asserted. “Of course, there is a huge difference between us now and 20 years ago.”
His statement was widely doubted by just about everyone. The letters, along with reports of the Taliban beating people and taking revenge against them, belie his words.
Thousands of Afghans are clamoring at the gate of Kabul’s airport in a desperate plea to be rescued before the Taliban takes hold and starts brutally enforcing Sharia law.
President Biden is still defending his decision to withdraw troops from the country despite the disastrous consequences. He has announced that all troops will be withdrawn by August 31 although an extension is under discussion. Once the troops are gone, any Americans remaining will be at the mercy of the Taliban. The terrorist group is threatening that if the U.S. does not leave by the due date, there will be “consequences.”
Biden is claiming that 11,000 Americans have been evacuated in the last 36 hours. But there are thousands more still trapped behind enemy lines.
He asserted that the situation remains dangerous in Kabul, stating, “The security environment is changing rapidly.
“We know that terrorists may seek to exploit the situation and target innocent Afghans or American troops. We’re under no illusions about the threat,” Biden remarked.
As many Americans risk losing their lives while trapped in Afghanistan, many Afghans are now under the threat of death for helping the United States as well. There has been no comment from the president or the American government on their fate or if we will come to their rescue. That prospect is now extremely doubtful.
Those on social media are not surprised:
This can’t be true. #Jake Sullivan allowed #USEmbassy to fly the Rainbow flag and the #UN sent a strongly worded letter to #Talibans

Biden might as well have written it

#Trump & #Biden are dumb for trying to negotiate with the #Taliban, their plan was always to retake #Afghanistan to facilitate terrorist activity.

No one dies in Afghanistan right Joe?

It’s only going to get worse. Biden’s Benghazi times a million. Sounds like Biden’s current military strategy is “pretty please.”
