Glenn Greenwald thinks he’s uncovered the root of the media’s sudden desire to stand up to Biden

Indy journalist Glenn Greenwald railed at the left-leaning corporate media Friday for their escalating criticism of President Joe Biden over Afghanistan after reserving finding fault with him and his administration over a host of other issues including the border crisis, inflation, and renewed energy dependence.

In an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Greenwald responded to the host’s monologue in which he noted how the media has suddenly become critical of Biden’s pullout, going on to highlight examples this week of ranking administration officials appearing to directly contradict the president publicly, which is not at all normal.

For his part, Greenwald believes the criticism is coming from the liberal media’s infatuation with and preference for endless “militarism and war.”

“I actually think that one of the things that’s going on here is, obviously, the corporate wing of the media, the liberal corporate wing, is liberal, they are attached to the Democratic Party, but with one exception, which is they really do believe constantly in militarism and war, their closest relationships in the media are with the CIA, are with the Pentagon, are within the national security state,” Greenwald said.

The investigative journalist and founder of “The Intercept” added that while the leftist media routinely ignore bad news about other pressing issues to include the worsening situation along the border and the inability for many small businesses to find enough workers because those issues don’t affect them, they regularly “cheer for war.”

“[The major media] is deeply offended when they see America greatness as they perceive it falling and failing, and these kinds of images are ones Americans are not accustomed to seeing, losing to what is essentially a primitive fighting force in the most humiliating manner possible” Greenwald continued.

“So I think that it offends their ideology.”

Greenwald went on to say that he thinks much of the political establishment in Washington is really not in favor of pulling out of Afghanistan, even after the U.S. has been there for two decades.

He went on to say that when former President Donald Trump was seriously pushing to withdraw from the country, as he promised he would during his 2016 campaign, the intelligence community leaked a story to the media that Russia was putting bounties on the heads of American soldiers and military personnel which was done, Greenwald noted, “to prevent Trump from leaving.”

That claim — reported by The New York Times — turned out to be bogus, however, and was very likely planted for the reason Greenwald suggested.

“Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or @VP. Possibly another fabricated Russia Hoax, maybe by the Fake News @nytimesbooks, wanting to make Republicans look bad!!!” Trump noted on Twitter in late June 2020.

Carlson jumped in to claim that it seems as if CNN isn’t really controlled by the Democratic Party but rather by the CIA, which elicited agreement from Greenwald.

“The two are kind of the same, usually, right? Over the past five years, there has been a merger between the Democratic Party and the CIA,” Greenwald responded.

“If you look at polling, Democrats and Democratic voters revere the CIA, revere the FBI, it is Republicans who are skeptical of the deep state.”

Greenwald went on to claim that Biden’s reasons for his Afghan withdrawal were never fact-based.

“He kept saying that the Afghan National Security Forces were strong enough to withstand the Taliban attack and would hold them off and that it would be almost impossible for the Taliban to take over the whole country. Had he been truthful with the American people that once we withdrew, the Taliban would take over, I think the reaction would’ve been a lot different,” he said.
